I live out in the sticks and all that's offered if Att 25mbs and they're charging me more than what you're paying for fiber. Fortunately, I should be able to get Mediacom fiber sometime soon. Theyve already started running the underground wire, so hopefully by the end of the year it should be up and running. Im able to get by decently as I live alone, but I cant watch a show and download something at the same time without buffering, so if I want to download a video game, then I have to do that while I'm sleeping or at work

If it's aerial service, they will hook it up to your utility mast from a telephone pole just like they would a cable TV line. If it's underground they will hook it up, BUT they might not bury it. If they work for ATT directly, they might not be allowed to bury, or at least this is what I've heard. They will leave it laying on the ground and assign a contractor to come do it later.
If all you do is stream TV, the 300 meg service is fine. The only reason you might need 1 gig or higher is if you download or upload large files often. The time saved might be worth it in that case.

For me it suuucked. Constant outages. Constantly needing new equipment (inside and out). Constantly requiring upgraded router. Did I mention the constant outages?

Huh? Got ATT and fiber put in years ago and didnt have to do shite. Cable was exposed for a bit before they buried it but that was it

I have att fiber. No issues. I just plugged my router into their modem. Still connect everything to my router. So nothing changed as far as access of devices.

Cancel the service and run as fast as possible away from AT&T
The only time my ATT Fiber has been down in 6 years was when the guys building the house next door cut it while grading the lot.
ATT fixed it the next morning.
Hurricane Ida rolled through, ran on generator for a week, and never lost internet.

I had it in Houston in two houses for about 15 years. Nearly bulletproof, including through hurricanes, freezes, etc. I just stuck a UPS (uninterruptible power supply like this) on the modem and the router, and I had service for all but about five days for that entire period of time. We had someone wreck their car into the fiber lines at the neighborhood box once, but even that outage was barely a day.
Most issues you have will almost certainly be related to your equipment, not AT&Ts. A lot of this board isn't knowledgeable enough to understand the difference, but it's the truth.

My cousin works for AT&T, he was the guy that hooked up LSU to the SEC Network.

I've had ATT fiber for 5 years. No issues. Keep your routers firmware and software up to date. Test your speeds every few months. There is a lot of development around me over the past few years and it was contributing to a slow down that the techs attributed to "Trunk lines" flooding or getting messsed up somehow. They'd come out and make some adustments down the line and boom I'd be back up to blazing speed. Make sure they bring you the latest gateway I belive its the BGW320. Like other said ATT is pure evil but the techs know this and try to make up for it.

I have Google Fiber. It’s been $70 a month for 1GB since 2018. Not one time has it ever been down. 2GB service is $100 but I don’t need it. When I call them I speak to an American in Austin Texas not some low iq retard in India or Philippines etc.

Years ago I decided to switch to AT&T fiber and they kept telling me fiber wasn't available at my house even though my neighbors, one next door and one directly across the street, both had it. I could see the AT&T fiber box from my front porch. But the customer service still kept telling me it was not available in my area. It was very frustrating. However, when I finally got it installed the AT&T fiber internet was far superior and more reliable than anything I had before.

Mine was installed in Nov 2024. Tech had it installed in a few hours and running. I do not use the supplied router for my WiFi as they all suck unless you less than 15’ and no obstructions.
I have 3 WiFi 6 mesh access points I use for wireless and turned off the wireless on ATT router. access points are wired to switch as well.
Not one issue or downtime since installed.

I had the installation in Denham and the installer made sure everything worked on a basic system.

Uh, what? Besides from making access to where the line comes in, there isn’t much you can do. They are going to take the time to do what they do.

watch what they do. i told the installer to run line in the attic overhead, so as not to get walked on in a floored attic used for storage. he ran it around boxes and down the access path. It turned out ok because the service was so awful i went back to cox after 90 days.
I'm in capital heights, and they could not install it at a neighbor's house because they couldn't figure out how to cross capital heights. Apparently only the south side of capital heights has access to the service.
i finally switched to t-mobile 5g and it works great.

Very happy with ATT Fiber. I would prepare for them to have a place for the wire to enter the house, and a place where you want the modem & wifi equipment. For example, I had the wire enter the house near the AC unit, ran the wire under the crawlspace and through the floor into a utility room closet.

Bury a conduit for the line
THIS !
My only complaint, they didn't even bury the entire line, I had about 6 inches above the dirt. Another tech guy told me that those fiber lines were tough as hell and only needed to be buried a couple of inches. Buy conduit and bury the line to make sure nothing rolls over and breaks the line just to be safe. We had Cox and prefer the AT&T fiber.
