Marriage is a strange institution.

It's the only thing besides serving in the infantry where people take pride in how long they're willing to put up with misery.

And in the grunts' defense, most of them are out after 4 years.

What else can I insult my way into getting you to admit?

Anal

bet you haven't hit your knees since your knelt during your marriage vows.

Women need to understand that the BJ (and I mean a good, motivated, two-handed assisted one) is the man's version of receiving flowers, except cheaper.

Well, pick a stage....

Too tired to have sex - often.
Blow jobs become a thing of the past.
Bitches at most things you do or don't do.
Gets fat and lazy and you have to pick up the slack on things she should contribute to the marriage.
Spends way too much money on stuff.
Doesn't cook much anymore.
Etc..........

Happiness? So wether to stay married or not should hinge on something as fickle as feelings? What if everything else in your life hinged on your happiness? " I don't think I'll go to work anymore, it doesn't make me happy!" "I don't think I'll finish college because well, I'm just not happy." "I would go to my mom's funeral, but I won't make me happy." "Listen son, I would give you one of my kidneys and save your life, but since it won't bring me an happiness, I won't

This is a good point.

You're not supposed to listen to your feelings all of the time. Listening to your feelings will result in you staying home and eating potato chips instead of going to the gym, or going out drinking instead of studying. Or in this case, it'll make you pull the plug on a marriage just when things get a little rocky. Your feelings don't give a damn about your long term well being, they just want you to be comfortable in the moment.

Maturity is acknowledging what you have to do and executing that plan in spite of feelings.

One person alone can't save a marriage.

So true. I dealt with my ex's issues, and still fought to stay together. After going to marriage counseling by myself for a year, I thought why am I the only one who is trying? And the most screwed up thing about it was I didn't do anything wrong. So that's when I decided to leave.

That's just it. Ours seems to flow right along. We've never raised our voice at each other and certainly never called each other a name we each love and respect one another to the utmost. I would never dream of hurting her for any reason.

Unless it involves infidelity, that is the right answer.
Even then, it's still best to stick it out. Marriage is more than whether or not your spouse ever fricked up.

If I didn't have kids it would not be worth it. Men who marry and don't want kids is the biggest wtf for me. Do what you want, when you want, and bang strange forever. Oh and of course keep all of your money and control it.

That doesn't mean it's easy. Relatively speaking, compared to others it may be, but it requires a great deal of selflessness, service, and dedication to make any marriage work, and none of those things are inherently easy - when placing two naturally selfish beings (humans) together in one setting.

If you have children nothing short of infidelity or abuse should be reason for divorce. If you don't have kids divorce is nothing more than a big breakup.

Most of the time women want more attention and affection from their husband.

Most of the time men want more respect from their wives(and sex).

I think the problem is that both men and women go about getting this the wrong way. I know I'm guilty of that at times. I've gotten better results when I've stopped focusing on what I want...and instead focus on what I can do to make things better for him.

All I'm saying is that happiness can change, and isn't by itself a good reason to abandon a marriage. I think," for better or worse" is part of the wedding vows right?

At the point I am in my life right now, single ,never married.Oh the horror stories I've heard and seen some go through. If I do it I want to be like mom & dad ; dad passing is the only thing that separated them.
That mythical "good woman" is just not out there !!!!
But I can't stop looking!
I just try to keep the faith.
But most likely - single for life.
Congratulations to everyone that has good marraiages, I envy you!

If the spouse is not willing to work things out, there is no way you will save a marriage all by yourself. Been there, done that.
