Depends on the rate of technological advancement and the access to that technology as the hardest hit areas in the case of overpopulation are in developing countries. People have been predicting Malthusian catastrophe for centuries.

Its been done, but I don't think that really makes a salient point any ways, even if it displays how small we are in comparison to Earth.

Ya, and I say they have been wrong for so long because its based on the false premise that you can "overpopulate" something in the first place.

Really depends upon our ability to deal with the problem. Vast changes in our diet and use of resources can do a lot.

Differences in temperature, pressure gradients, potential energy being converted to kinetic energy, etc. The list is endless. Are you going for a reductio ad absurdum argument?

Who are you? Hank Johnson? I don't think that human population can "exceed the carrying capacity per se, but we can cause tectonic activity. It depends on the distribution of people and our structures/material possessions relative to the margins of tectonic plates and unstable regions. One of the greatest contributors to our influence on seismic events is the removal of gas and oil from the crust. By pumping these substance out of the ground we remove support from the crust and great instability. Many geophysicists have suggests that underground explosions (particularly nuclear testing) can cause seismic activity.

ETA: My bad. Just reread the title......I thought you referring to the crust supporting weight.

The overpopulation myth was reborn in the 60's with the acceleration of the environmental movement. It's based on fear, not reality.

FIFTY years from now the world's population will be declining, with no end in sight. Unless people's values change greatly, several centuries from now there could be fewer people living in the entire world than live in the United States today

MANY scientists believe that by transforming the earth’s natural landscapes, we are undermining the very life support systems that sustain us. Like bacteria in a petri dish, our exploding numbers are reaching the limits of a finite planet, with dire consequences. Disaster looms as humans exceed the earth’s natural carrying capacity. Clearly, this could not be sustainable.

This is nonsense. Even today, I hear some of my scientific colleagues repeat these and similar claims — often unchallenged. And once, I too believed them. Yet these claims demonstrate a profound misunderstanding of the ecology of human systems. The conditions that sustain humanity are not natural and never have been

it hurts my brain when people keep spouting this overpopulation bullshite

if there was ever a problem regarding population, it would be underpopulation in certain countries, and gender/sex imbalance in places like China

Same here, particularly when there is so much information that debunks the whole premise.
