I haven't seen either one. one is evil trees and other is tall smurfs or something, right?

I actually started thinking about the concept after playing Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and then looking at other terrestrial phenomenon. It's as if lifeforms which appear to be essentially mindless actually have a level of communication we aren't aware of.

Population growth cannot exceed Earth's carrying capacity by definintion. So I doubt we ever surpass it.

Fascinating. I've long thought that there is so much more going on with animal/plant/life-form communication that meets the eye.

And if it's possible for animals and plants to talk to each other...well, maybe we are missing something by looking at it on the wrong scale or discounting it simply because "that's ridiculous".

There's a shitload of information to support that idea.

Or, more than likely, that is simply ridiculous. How do we know stars aren't sentient gods? Could there be something to that?

On mobile, so not linking all this crap, but read Paul Chefurka's Population the Elephant in the Room article, watch professor Albert Bartlett Arithmetic Population and Energy video on youtube, read the Eating Fossil Fuels article and for real doomer stuff, read Perry arnett Peak Oil, Total Collapse and the Road to Olduvai. Once the fossil fuels are gone, we will get back to a billion or less. I honestly think industrial civilization won't exist in 50 years.

If everyone on earth wants to consume resources like an average American then there's no way the earth can support more people. Water resources will be the main issue.

Distribution is the problem, technology will begin to solve that issue. There's plenty of water.

Beings of a sort...it's more of a possibility than you realize.

If we only think of "life" as confined to the ideas we see in our immediate proximity, of course we'll discount other ideas.

But do you realize the vastness of the universe, and how little we understand of it? Every day we learn new things that continually shatter preconceived notions.

Tried two protein bars from EXO ([link=(www.exo.co)]www.exo.co[/link]) last week. They're made from natural ingredients plus cricket flour for protein. Both were good (particularly the peanut butter & jelly one) but it turns out I'm allergic to acheta domesticus crickets and I broke out in painful pustules all over my face. To be fair, the company does warn you not to eat their products if you have a shellfish allergy (but I'm not allergic to shellfish).

Easy way to tell if the world is overpopulated.

Ask the people who say it is "Are YOU part of the surplus population?" Funny how the answer is always no...the "surplus" population is always someone else (usually brown or black people.)

Don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but Dan Brown's " Inferno" is about this issue. Crazy science dude thinks life can't sustain the current rate of population growth, so he engineers a virus or something to wipe out most of us.

Yes, in fact we'll probably peak at 9 billion, then start to decrease. Even if the population rises far more than that, innovation will provide answers to sustainable resources.
