You see people having links for their venmo and cashapp all over the place. Im getting older, but it seems like people used to have a little more pride and didnt ask for money, unless they really needed it. Even then, some of them had a little too much pride to ask.

You see cars all the time now with their venmo listed on it. Kids today are so weird.

I live in Oklahoma, but the only time I've ever seen that was 4 years ago on I-10 in southern Louisiana. I was on my way back from Florida and was passed by an SUV. On the back window it said "Just Married" and had a Venmo address below that.

Once we stopped pinning on dollars on birthdays and started blessing cashapps, it’s become a pandemic.

There are beggars in the Bible so I'd say it's been goin on for a while.

It is believed that in Rome alone, the number of beggars/very poor people was significant and could account for up to 4-8% of the population of pre-industrial cities

It would also be nice if they had some appreciation when you do help them. During the aftermath of Hurricane Helene while most people were still without power, including me, I was getting gas at one of the few gas stations that was open and a young lady asked me if I could help her with some money to fill three gas cans she had by the pump.

Because of all the hardship most everyone was going through I pulled a twenty out of my wallet and gave it to her. She took the twenty, looked at the gas cans and said, "wait a minute, is this going to be enough to fill them all up?". I was a little taken aback and replied, " it'll be enough to get you started".

Then she just turned away and walked into the store without a thank you, frick you or nothing. I didn't mind helping with everything that was going on but damn, would some appreciation be out of the question?

It takes mainly parents but also a society that encourages people to think about something besides themselves for a kid to appreciate gratitude. Too many have self-centered parents who don't give a shite or no parents to speak of and our society is primarily about personal greed.

Since it was taken over by the money pimps. The folks you see standing on both sides of major intersections work for the pimps.

And get pissy with you if you a) don't give they ANY or enough money, B) give them something other than money, such as a coke or a hamburger or 3) Don't make eye contact with them.

Talking about the ones who are at the street corners, oddly enough, ALL with the same exact little cardboard signs.

It’s worse in person imo. Visiting family in NC over the holidays, I was approached for money in the grocery store aisle.
