re: At what age did your kids stop believing in Santa?

My 5 year old is all in. I have a naughty or nice meter ornament on my tree Hallmark put out a few years ago that I make him check a few times a day. If it comes back “Nice-ish” or “Naughty” he goes around hugging people and picking up his toys and helping my wife clean up of food towels, etc. it’s really funny. My 12 year old says she does, but I don’t believe her. I carried it on til I was 13or 14 because I was afraid if I admitted it I’d stop getting Santa presents. That joke became a tradition that carried on with my family through both me and my brother getting married and having our own kids. Our wives got Santa presents from my folks. Think my daughter has the same idea with her little brother. I really think this will be the last Christmas where we aren’t sure about her.

My dad told me that if Santa was real that he( my father) wouldn’t have been getting up at 3:00 am to work a milk route. Lol

Wait. Santa isn't real?

My 9 year old came to me 2 weeks ago and said there was no way a fat man was flying deer around the Earth in one night and he felt like he was being lied to.
He asked for the truth.
So I told him the truth.

So I told him the truth.

10 years old was about the last year for them.
When they asked how he did it in one night with a small sleigh I told them that like Amazon, UPS and FedEx which deliver worldwide everyday, he had distribution centers where he'd stop.

I was the fourth kid. With three older siblings, my parents never even tried the Santa deal with me.

Kinda surprised one of his friends hasn’t told him

Ours is under 2, but I believe I was around 10 when I stopped.
My logic was that my parents couldn’t afford what “Santa” was bringing. I didn’t understand the concept of Christmas/year end bonuses as a kid

That kid's got more problems than finding out about Santa.

What about this elf? Feels like it’ll be around after the Santa gig is up.

When I was a kid I was skeptical of the whole thing and left a statement for Santa to sign swearing he was real. “He” signed and I was satisfied. Looking back it’s pretty funny to me that I didn’t trust him to be real but I trusted that his signature would be. Reminds me of the Elf line “and I suppose the parents do that too?”

ex wife told my daughter when she was 10 and it pissed me off

Wait Santa isn’t real? My whole life has been a lie

As long as free shite keeps coming, they'll pretend to believe.
Posted on 12/20/23 at 8:11 pm to StringedInstruments
You have to spin that shite so the idea of Santa is alive, even if Santa isn't real.
My 9 year old is starting to question more, I tell her as long as she believes in Santa there will be a Santa. Also that the belief in Santa makes people want to be more like him and give to those less fortunate.
Just because they know Santa isn't real doesn't mean you have to remove the joy of Santa.
