I don't watch wrestling anymore but I've never really thought fake was the right word to describe it. If wrestling was fake, all those career wrestlers wouldn't be dead or crippled by the time they are 45.

It's scripted, not fake.

Soooooo, they are really taking kicks to the face? All those punches are real?

It's scripted....and fake. Yes it takes physical ability to put on the show, buts it's a show. A big fake show. You can be entertained by it the same way people are entertained by a magician while knowing it's fake. But it's fake and there's no way around that.

It's a Soap Opera for Men.

Nothing wrong with what it is, i don't watch, but it is what it is.

Back in the old days, they made a much bigger effort to make it seem real. You still knew it wasnt, but you didn't know exactly how they did it. It had a mystique, like an illusionist. Now you know everything, and the mystery has been removed.

I was excited about WrestleMania I. I was around 16 years old. The kid next door thought it was real too. We watched old tapes of the Von Ericks in Texas.

I lost my Wrassling Virginity at around 16.

Saying it's fake is like saying circe du soleil and broadway is "fake". Yes, you are intelligent enough to recognize that the events are scripted and choreographed congratualtions. Literally everyone with an iq above room temperature knows it's all performance art; pointing that out and telling everyone you know it's fake is dumber than actually believing it's real. It's akin to seeing Santa clause iconography and scoffing at the kids who believe it and insisting on telling fellow adults you're too smart to be taken in by that scam.

Shakespeare is fake, too, but no one chants "This is awesome!" or "Holy shite!" during Hamlet.

Advantage: Wrestling

I pretty much knew it was fake around 7 or 8. I distinctly remember getting in a heated argument the night after jyd fought someone in the Hirsch and these kids who went kept telling me how jyd got his head was split open with a chain and had to be taken from the arena in anambuance. I called bs and had to end up fighting them both lol. I still watched enthusiastically throughout highschool though

Back before theater became the go to entertainment for "cultured folks" who enjoy the smell of their own farts, i.e. Back when Shakespeare was alive and writing, the poor people watching the show most certainly did

What would you call a football game where the hits were there, the passes were there, the runs were there, but you later found out that the scores were predetermined and they basically set all that up for the sake of the show. The hits were practiced. The defenders allowed the catches. The tackles purposefully missed tackles. I know I'd call it fake.

You can call it entertainment, but it's fake. Just like all fiction TV is fake. This just has some physicality to the fakeness.

Figuring out it was fake was easy at age 7. Part I don't understand is all of the "grown men" who actually watch this crap.

I mean, you have to be pretty dense if you see a guy get "punched" in the face 10-15 times, and see no blood drawn, swelling, or bruising...

I wanna say there was more realism in the early 1900's when guys like farmer burns, Lou thesz, and stanislaus zybysko were around.

I'm sure there are still some work-shoots done today in Japan where it's more physical than here in the states but still predetermined.

The REC doesn't appreciate your question.

I'm sure that the rampant steroid, alcohol and drug abuse combined with life on the road are a factor here too.

Wrestlers are physical specimens but having worked with several I can assure you it's what's going on outside the ring that's killing them young.

I honestly think I knew Stagger Lee was JYD before I knew Santa wasn't real.
