At What Age Did You Get a Cell Phone? Parents: At What Age Did You Give Your Kids a Phone?

I fear the time is coming soon where I may need to get my oldest a cell phone. I know there is no going back after you give them this device as kids get glued to it. Some of his friends have phones some don't. Only reason i'm considering getting him one is when he is with his mom he or his sibling could call me at any time. Also, he rides his bike down to the park with his friends and he is out of sight. He is only 10
I got my first cell phone when I was 14. Seems like today all kids north of 12 these days have one.
Side question: what is a good phone for a kid where it is easy to limit functionality and/or monitor usage?

I was 22.
It was a different day and age, for sure.

I got mine when I got accepted into high school in 8th grade. Graduated high school in 2009 for a time reference.

My kids got them around age 12'ish and they were fairly late as compared to most of their friends.

I got a cell phone at 31 or 32. I never gave my son one. He got one on his own when he was grown and joined the army.

When I was 16, what the hell was a cell phone? Kids got them when they were 12.

I worked a summer job at 19 and finally bought myself one. My parents wouldn't get me one. This was 2001 though. Cell phones weren't everywhere back then. Cell phone plans were also super cheap back then.
I rocked snakes hard on my Nokia though bruh!

I was around 19. Somewhere between 1999 and 2000 and in college so it's different. I had the beeper before that though. I would wear them both because the phone didn't vibrate so I couldn't hear it when I was out.

First phone was my junior year of high school so probably 16-17 yrs old in 1996. It was a huge arse bag phone that cost $0.60/minute to use and was for emergency only. Damn thing had awesome reception though.

I was probably 28 or so.
My kid got his at 10 just so we can keep up with him, but unlike most kids his age (12 now) he's never on it and rarely carries it anywhere.

7th grade for my daughter when she started doing more after school activities and it became a very helpful tool to allow us to stay in touch.
There are safeguards on the phone and usage isn't allowed during a certain window each night during homework time. It's never allowed out during meals.
And in before the gramps types tell everyone kids don't need them because they didn't need them as kids
