Well you pay a fee to go from Coinbase to Binance, then you have to seel the ETH on Binance to BTC to buy IOTA.... so you end up losing some....

ya there is a fee. the median ETH fees are cheaper than the median BTC fees, so its why i recommend it.
its also typically a faster transfer

its a hedge against blockchain tech, IOTA uses this idea called the "tangle"
