Astronomers may be picking up signs of propulsion from intersteller spacecraft

Bizarre flashes of cosmic light may actually be generated by advanced alien civilizations, as a way to accelerate interstellar spacecraft to tremendous speeds, a new study suggests.
quote:
One potential artificial origin, according to the new study, might be a gigantic radio transmitter built by intelligent aliens. So Loeb and lead author Manasvi Lingam, of Harvard University, investigated the feasibility of this possible explanation.
quote:
Why would aliens build such a structure? The most plausible explanation, according to the study team, is to blast interstellar spacecraft to incredible speeds. These craft would be equipped with light sails, which harness the momentum imparted by photons, much as regular ships' sails harness the wind. (Humanity has demonstrated light sails in space, and the technology is the backbone of Breakthrough Starshot, a project that aims to send tiny robotic probes to nearby star systems.)
Indeed, a transmitter capable of generating FRB-like signals could drive an interstellar spacecraft weighing 1 million tons or so, Lingam and Loeb calculated.
"That's big enough to carry living passengers across interstellar or even intergalactic distances," Lingam said in the same statement.

So basically, the most advanced technology in the universe (sails/sailboats) was invented by the ancient Egyptians....who also built the pyramids....

Turns out, they may also not be.

I hate this new form of science click bait. Every one of these "finds" are all super vague and the articles end with some logical explanation.

It's pervasive. Even TD is guilty. It's like the tabloid aisle in the supermarket but no one realizes it it's all a bunch of stupid made up shite.

Turns out it was just some stray radio waves from the McD's drive thru nearby. Simply Laqueesha tellin folks to pull ahead and wait, da shake machine be broke.

All part of the scientific method.

Bunch of nerds getting excited about something they have no clue about.
I'm convinced they just put out shite like this to get clicks.

I don't see anything wrong with this. Does it seem crazy enough to be coming from Giorgio Tsoukalos and not Harvard professors? Yes. You'd think a civilization capable of building a solar reflector twice as big as the earth would come up with a better way to power a ship, but maybe there isn't a better way. Unless you're one of those people that hates all the money going to space exploration, interesting theories like this and the one a few months back about the alleged Dyson Sphere are good for science. It captures imaginations and might be the reason that some young kid chooses to become a scientist.

Are they really that advanced if we simple minded humans can explain what they're doing?
