Most of the issues have stemmed from proposed tax increases for roads/infrastructure being defeated until they become an absolute crisis.

As much as I want to blame Matassa and previous AP Presidents, much of the blame rests on the voters within AP. I've seen numerous proposals to improve interchanges and widen highways get nixed by voters. NIMBYism is very strong her

That's because all the previous tax increases did nothing, so voters started saying enough is enough and started rejecting numerous attempts at tax increases.

I heard that, too. Some local guy came around politicking for our vote last year, ended up chatting him for an hour. He was clearly familiar with the ways of AP, said most people who do vote the proposals down do it bc the money for upgrading infrastructure is/was there and it was misused. So they just won't give them any more to squander, or something like that.

Got some real pros there, real pros!

He offered a guy his money back for running and told him he would lose anyway = ballsy

He had a representative tell the press to contact his attorney without having one = genius if you think about it

He walks.

Examples? I have not heard of any millage increases that did not go as intended.

Be sure to cite local tax initiatives and not state tax proposals as your reasons...

I just said I heard it from someone allegedly in the know. I'm not admitting to be an expert, merely citing examples of different things I've heard.

By all means, please inform us if you're more familiar with the in/outs.

Apologies man. I'm not trying to sound hostile. My only experience is being a 15yr resident of Dutchtown. Im frustrated with sitting in traffic on roads that had solutions defeated on the basis that "govt already has the $ to do what is needed"

When in actuality the AP govt budget only has enough for maintaining existing roads, not building/expanding new ones.

I voted for the school construction millage increase back in the early 00's and happily approved its renewal last year bc I have see the remarkable progress APSB has made in building new schools to keep up with demand. I know some kids are in T buildings but things would be much worse if it wasn't for that millage.

I wish we could do the same for our roads.

No big-I understand that frustration. It's maddening when you watch your tax dollars be used for...

???

Yes, the schools are good, no one could argue it. But the infrastructure is a joke. After 6 years out here I knew it wasn't going to change until it gets much, much worse. Just don't feel like waiting around for that day.

We moved to St Amant because Hwy 42 and Airline made my morning and afternoon commutes miserable and we wanted to get out of the cookie cutter subdivision we were living in. Prairieville and Dutchtown are quickly becoming overpopulated. St Amant FTW

I had no problem with him but he wasn't on the ballot during the run off. I liked the fact the Clint had nothing to do with the past regime.

Who takes over if Matassa is forced out? Or will there be a special election?

Absolutely. I was floored when the last proposal was defeated. We moved away for other reasons but really like where we were in the parish. All you kept hearing about was how people wanted AP to keep it's past "rural" feel to it. I'm sure those are the first people to complain about the traffic as well.

Well they are succeeding, AP has the same cow paths as it had back in the 70's, minus a few that were made 4 lanes and some turn lanes added at select intersections.
