not sure who told you that

A teacher friend at the school. Maybe she’s wrong but that’s the most reliable source we have at the moment.

Tells me she didn't read the email or there was a misunderstanding...

At this time, we are targeting Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021, for the return of students to buildings for in-person learning as well as providing online instructional services for our Blended Learning Program. However, at this time, we are unable to be absolutely certain about Wednesday as the date for reopening. More details about our anticipated opening on Wednesday will be provided Tuesday afternoon as we continue to monitor the restoration of the power grid and work through any challenges we identify with mechanical services and technology as the power to buildings is restored. We will allow after-school activities to resume for students involved in extracurricular activities as early as tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 6, 2021. Details regarding those activities will come from school principals, coaches, and sponsors.

COVID or have to quarantine because someone in their home has COVID. we are asked to adjust the curriculum based on what students missed while we were out and fold in those skills to incoming lessons to ensure your students are prepared for Benchmarks at the end of Quarter 1

We were told if a student could attend virtually (say like living out of state until power returns), that was an option or if a student couldn’t attend virtually and no power to prepare packets. We will be teaching in person and virtually simultaneously because of Ida (we already were everyday due to Covid anyway). But yes, no student this year could choose to be virtual all year. They had to sign up for BLP. Quarantine and Ida are exceptions. So far this year I haven’t had one day without teaching online and in-person. Not complaining, just explaining that these kids could just join on in.

How is that possible? The class sizes will be enormous. Doesn't sound like a very well thought-out plan

They bring in temporary buildings and teachers from those schools go and teach that way. I believe the same was done after the flood of 2016 when they could not get back into some schools.

St Amant Primary used GW Carver’s campus while both were in school after the flood. AP schools are well adapted to do what needs to be done to provide an education. They did it after the flood, the did it during covid, and they will do it after Ida. I have been impressed how the school system, in particular the St Amant schools, have handled adversity

Hurricane Ida situation is small compared to the 2016 flood. I am pretty sure they have a plan that will work.

But I guess yall in Moon, PA don't have to worry about that.

Line trucks just rolled to the back of Lake Martin. Pole truck was loaded down. Hopefully we have power today.

TDsnGumbo,

Hang in there, pretty sure they will head north next. Tell your wife to calm down.

Just received word that classes no longer will resume on Wednesday. He never should've made the announcement to begin with.

I said this same thing on Sunday. Especially when you have teachers who are operating as clean up and restoration crews today to try to get back into classrooms as the rain is coming into the building. Seemed pretty shortsighted and not attainable considering the damage of parts of our parish.

My other issue is that the parish policy on virtual learning is that it can only be enacted for COVID reasons. Pretty dumb to say that teachers couldn't provide a couple quick lessons and sent them out for the students to work on this week "to keep up".

I'm just a dumb idiot though.

He's always in such a rush to get back, and doesn't take a lot of things into consideration. Got forbid Ascension lose their #1 ranking. I felt terrible for their teachers last spring.

Well they haven't been #1 but Top 5 in the state, last year the teachers were fine but a lot of then bitched because well that is what women do.

Students are fine to go back and Ascension had an idea until peer pressure from parents ruined it. Which is sad they let a few of the loudest dictate for the majority.

What exactly did the parents bitch about? My son goes to Bluff Middle. Basically all I've heard was that certain areas of the parish didn't have power so it didn't make sense for them to go back

So each family of our school was contacted today. Many not returning due to no power, damage, or relocated until power returns. Virtual learning was considered, but about 20% said they would be unable to attend virtually due to no internet. Bus drivers drove their routes today and encountered many problem areas they couldn’t access due to downed lines and poles. Our school which just got power back yesterday, turns out to not have power in many areas including the cafeteria and some main hallways. Several schools still do not have power. They couldn’t plan the turnaround to send these kids somewhere else and where to send them that fast.

Not saying I’m for or against the decision. There are many kids that need to get back into their routines. Just saying all of this was determined today as still too much to get the kids back.

9 schools still don’t have power. Linemen were using some school parking lots to park their work trucks. Some schools still need to clean up a few areas.

I won’t be surprised if they just say kids go back Monday and fresh with a new week and let teachers keep going this week to plan and continue to try and get in touch with their kids to get an accurate count on who is returning and who can’t return or who will enroll in their online learning program, BLP.

The only students that actually do the work with virtual learning are the kids that don’t need it and are already the highest in the class. The others fall more behind. Kids the age I teach do not have the self discipline or attention span to succeed virtually (and I don’t blame them).
