I used to be a nazi about it but I don't really care anymore unless literally every light in the house is on. I have split floor plan so I generally try to turn off the lights on the side of the house not being used. Total wattage of one entire side of the house being onis comparable to 1 ceiling fan worth of incandescents. Energy usage is near irrelevant.
I am however a nazi about leaving the outside doors open...the return air for the kitchen/ living side of my house is literally above the backdoor and it infuriates me when the kids leave it open in summer while the AC is running. I' absolutely lose my shite about it, but they don't seem to care. I'm almost to the point of putting a self close hinge on it.

My 8 year old turns off every light in the damn house in the middle of the night so I wind up busting my arse in the darkness.

They will forget your many small kindnesses and remember that time you exploded about the lights. Eat the pain.

With LED lights it doesn't piss me off much, but leaving the door open for an inordinate amount of time gets a slap on your face, letting the AC out is a slappable offense. If you don't like getting slapped in the face, don't leave the god damned door open.

Wife is the light nazi. Sometimes like now even turning off the little one on the kitchen stove hood thing. And we’re all or most LED.

I told my son to shut the door because he was letting the cold air out just this afternoon.

My youngest is scared of the dark, you might be able to see our house from space at night time he leaves every possible light turned on

Yes, I taught my boys to turn off the lights. My wife was more nonchalant and it was i little frustrating, but it wasn't worth wrecking a relationship over.

This ain’t his $/kw, FRP rider, hurricane Katrina/Ike/ice storm etc securitization charge, energy charge (a variable charge to cover fixed costs), peak usage charge….either

Once upon a time my Pops took all of the light bulbs out of our bedrooms. When we complained and asked about it he handed us a flashlight. He proved his point, but the older me now realizes the damn batteries for the flashlight would have cost him even more.
The right way is almost always harder and more expensive than the easy way out. Might have cost him a couple of bucks and having to deal with the whining, but it left a lasting impression on his son,
He made his point and parented you instead of coddling you, and you are better off for that and most certainly other things along the same lines.
Mine was the same way.
We need more like your Dad, (mine too).

Do you really save that much by turning all the lights off?
Posted on 9/23/24 at 9:34 pm to Wildcat98USA
My 7 year old wakes up at daylight on the weekends. I will wake up and she will have every light on in the house and I’ll catch myself getting on to her asking why does she think it’s necessary to turn on every light and leave it on.
I was getting on to my 2 year old the other day for leaving the door open letting the cool air out. I was like my gosh who am I. I’m getting older complaining about the lights being on and the door being left open.
