frickin elf on the shelf still lives in my house

He made an appearance last night. Why last night? Because in my youngest daughter's mind, he wouldn't come until we started decorating the outside and inside of our house.

And magically this morning, he was there.

I love this time of the year.

My kids are 18 and 15 and neither has ever professed a disbelief in Santa. I think they know better than to disrupt the gravy train.

My 25 year olds still get gifts from Santa. of course they don't believe, but they don't frick it up for the other kids.

In this case, it's not magic.

It's called the working class, tax paying citizen.

Yes, it is a "lie" but I honestly don't see the harm in tradition with something that is meant to be very sincere, innocent and often "magical" for children to experience.

We lie to children all the time about fictional characters who were created to make them behave correctly.

Santa, Tooth Fairy, Jesus, Easter Bunny, etc

You must be referring to Gravy's update last night that said he's too cheap to give credit to Santa Claus for the presents he bought his child. What a piece of shite.

Actually, no. But I did just read his page after you mentioned it.

Doesn't surprise me with him. Anyone that portrays about how great of a parent they are on social media for everyone to notice is generally lacking in many areas.

nless you live in North Korea......the magic of Santa is important for any kid.

This is 1000% true. I always knew Santa Claus wasn't real and it made me sad - still does sometimes. Santa Claus has always been a big part of my children's Christmas because I wanted them to experience all the excitement, and anticipation and, well the magic that is Santa Claus. Kids need that sliver of innocence that isn't logical or practical, or questioning; just believing in something good and fun for the hell of it.

If any parents are thinking of depriving your kids of this please don't. They'll have a whole lifetime of reality, let them have this little bit of life without it.

I wouldn't say it's a "lie" st. Nick did exist

My parents allowed me to believe so why shouldn't I do the same for my daughter

I don't think I've ever met a person that doesn't let their kid believe in Santa. Didn't even know it was a thing.

Absolutely.. my oldest figured it out a few years ago but didn't let us know until this year. We told him that Santa was real but not in physical sense and that if he told his little brother we'd kill him.

That's pretty fricked up seeing as Santa Clause is secular and has nothing to do with religion.

Yes, and I've never admitted to any of them that he's not real. My standard response is "If you don't believe, you won't receive." which basically means if you don't believe in the magic and spirit of Christmas, you won't get the most of out of it.

Unfortunately, it's a thing. One of my cousins sons and his wife are like this weird blend of hippy and fundamentalist Christian. They breast feed until the kids go to junior high and they don't allow Santa Claus and other pagan symbols to overshadow Jesus on his birthday. They go to church in each other's houses. None of their cult allows Santa. They are an odd bunch.

I'm afraid me and such a parent would be having a discussion. There is zero reason to be a dick and allow your little dick kids to ruin something like Santa for other kids.

At a minimum I would hire older children to kick the shite out of your kids if I found out about such a thing.
