As of this minute, has the US Covid response been a success from a medical standpoint?

How would you rate it from a medical standpoint at this particular moment in time?
(Feel free to qualify any way you wish, but the question is intended to deal with the medical question only and encompasses the entire US and the interplay of federal, state and local governments via principles of federalism).

Idk...
Have we done too much??
Have we done not enough??
How can you accurately quantify "what ifs"?

Lmao no, but i imagine there's a lot of righties that refuse to accept that truth because it makes their god king look bad for dragging his feet and fricking it up

Personally, I don’t think the US should ever be in a position where we are scrambling to get the essential PPE needed for medical professionals. I hate being so reliant on the east for critical things we can produce ourselves.

It could have been a lot better. I'd call it an infield single. Both Germany and South Korea hit home runs by comparison.

It’s not Trumps fault we have failed miserably.

Yes. Our hospitals were never overwhelmed unlike many countries, we have tested more people per capita than just about everyone, and we will be the country to develop the cure.

Well, good for those much smaller, homogeneous, healthy countries.

I think it has been good, overall.
We have flattened the curve. Healthcare systems don't appear to be overwhelmed. I think it could have been much, much worse.
I also think it is a bit of an unfair criticism to say we should have acted sooner. Maybe we should have - but this is unprecedented. A shutdown was an enormous step with huge ramifications and you cannot make that decision until you are 10000% sure it is necessary. I am not a Trump supporter but I simply cannot knock someone for the timing of making that call. In my opinion it is a call cannot be made sooner than necessary and therefore by nature will be made later than "it should have been".

I know. If only we had cut off travel from infected countries sooner we may have been able to prevent this from getting to our shores.
Very hard MAYBE

Our country is entirely dependent on other countries for every aspect of Healthcare. Equipment, PPE, laboratory supplies, drugs etc. it is inexcusable for a nation as rich and brilliant as ours to have no infrastructure to care for our own. This pandemic just revealed to the entire globe how vulnerable we are to provide for our people in a health emergency. This isn’t on Trump. This is on the globalization of the economy and the desire to maximize profits even at our own peril.

Ok. Trump banned travel from China which is good, but he could've done it prepared for it a little earlier.

He had no good option. There was nothing Trump could have done.

I agree the supply chain of essential materials was exposed. But how is that considered in the current covid response.
I get it from a macro picture of the entire economy (think of our reliance upon China for steel), but the overall US response has been better than just about everywhere.

Outside of the CDC fricking up with the tests initially, I'm not sure what else could be done. This is strictly speaking medically with no thought given to economic impacts.
The medical facilities haven't been, and we're never in any real danger of being overrun. Yes, there were some shortages of PPE in places, but that can be put on hospital administrators. And not really sure what they were supposed to do with a worldwide shortage going when they were trying to get those items.
