At least you were ready for the banjos.

I like living at the base and with view of the mountains. (But then again our neighbors a few doors down died in an avalanche due to some kids snowboarding illegally, so….).

In Montana, you get overly confident badasses who want to prove their one ton can handle black ice on switchbacks at 90mph.

They’re good at it to be sure. But it only takes one hiccup and it’s lights out.

In the South it’s a nightmare in snow/ice. Last winter, I moved a car to the bottom of the hill. And good thing. Would have been stuck a couple days. Mail didn’t come from 10 days straight.

I’ll take it all though.

Every once in a while we get those 2-3' storms, and the road looks like a tunnel. You cant tell where road stops and the berm starts.

My roommate in Iceland had skinny arms like One72.One night some guys started arm wrestling.(there wasn’t much to do in winter in Iceland).
My roommate with the skinny arms beat everybody. It got to be a big deal, everybody in the barracks wanted to take him on,nobody could beat him
,Word got around and guys from other barracks, some of them weight lifters with huge arms started coming to our barracks to challenge him.
Best I remember no one ever beat him.
He embarrassed the hell out of some guys with huge arms. Shocked the hell out of me to tell the truth.

Technique means more than arm strength.

Friends rented a cabin in the Smokies a few winters ago. It was a crazy steep driveway, and well it iced over. We had to hike up an iced driveway to visit because the cars wouldn't make it up. That was not fun.

I live in Bend. It’s 18 miles to the hill which includes almost 3K altitude drive up the hill from the bus stop.

Yep, I take the bus. I drive my 4wdTaco to the bus stop then let the bus drive the 3K.

I snowboarded over 100 days last season on Mt Bachelor.

Thats 100 days of driving up that mountain that I didn’t drive.

Back in my early 20s, I was visiting a friend on the mountain side of Salt Lake City in the middle of winter. (Snow everywhere). My flight landed in the evening and I rented a car at the airport to drive to his place. For some reason his neighborhood had very limited street lighting so it was hard to see. At one point going up an incline on a turn, my vehicle hydroplaned about 10 yards down the incline and off the road a little bit.

Never been so scared in my life because I wasn’t sure if there was a 100 foot cliff off the side of the road due to it being so dark and slightly snowy outside. I couldnt see very far in front of me.
I turned around and headed toward the gas station at beginning of neighborhood and had the friend come pick me up because I was afraid to try that turn again. We got the car in the morning and decided I wasn’t driving at night again on that trip. Complete ignorant inexperience driving on that type of terrain.

Game recognize game..

I don’t see anyone else here posting a pic of themselves on the mountain with their woman.

Tons of posers on this site. Glad you recognize.

I do a lot of overlanding and I damn near slid off the road and tumbled down the mountain last winter. I’ve been living in the mountains for well over a decade, so experience doesn’t always matter.

Luckily, I was in a 100 series LC and the vehicle corrected itself and regained traction

I lived on a mountain in the ozarks for a few months... over the summer... it was fine. Roads and driveway were sketch, but totally passable during the summer, I would not want to do a single freeze on that mountain though. Add ice or snow to the equation and it is a frozen hell on earth.
