As far as furniture goes...are there really any brands you recommended? La-Z-Boy?

First off furniture is absolutely overpriced everywhere. I know the markup is 400-500% most places. I’ve bought it on the commercial side for years. Personal furniture I’ve always been on getting the lowest quality price point. Not necessarily quality.

There is a La-Z-Boy store here in LC. It seems like decent furniture and not what I remember. Kind of expensive. May have got that mixed up with Ashley and their cheap junk. They seem to have decent warranty on their stuff.

The other furniture we found is Flexsteel. It’s got a lifetime warranty on the frame? But it’s super expensive as well.

Anybody have any good reviews on the best furniture they ever bought? I’ve always bought cheap junk that broke after a few years.

La-Z-Boy is awesome.

It’s comfortable and lasts forever - it is expensive though

We used to buy cheap junk bc of the kids but when #3 was born, we splurged on a la z boy recliner/rocker - still going strong 14 years later!!

We bought couches over the summer

I have two dogs and a kid on the way. We have been looking at buying this. It’s so expensive I’m concerned I’m going to turn into one of those parents that yell at kids to stay off the furniture.

Gives me anxiety just thinking about it. Then of course. Can always replace the crap.

Well - we got the rocker sprayed with the scotch guard stuff bc baby #3 spit up constantly

We didn’t do that with the new sofas bc they were so darned expensive to begin with but I did buy some cheap furniture covers

We don’t have pets, but I have 6 kids (4 boys but the girls can be just as messy) and my mother lives with us - and she’s dropping things more and more - I don’t want to yell at anyone bc of the sofas

Although I have

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely makes me feel better about this possible buy. I’m just of the mind I want to buy quality stuff for once in my life and not worry about it again for 15-20 years. I also like the idea that they have a store and their own repair people available to fix this stuff if need be.

I can’t help but seeing that this is a common narrative with a lot of things. I wonder why, my paycheck isn’t getting any bigger.

Go to Butler. Don’t buy the big box store garbage.

Sure! I was hesitant to spend that much money on something my kids could possibly trash out in 2 seconds.

Also forgot to say my inlaws have had their lazy boy couches for 20+ years and they’re still very comfortable and function like new (they’re reclining couches or something) - and they’re actually not that dirty

We went to Butler. The problem is you can’t find pieces in sets. So if I want two of the same couch, if it’s not on the floor, “oh well”. There also seemed to be no overriding brand. So the warranty aspect concerns me. If I need a repair, kind of tough titty. With kids coming, I get concerned.

We furniture shopped everywhere when we moved. It honestly all just seemed like cheap bullshite to me. We ended up going with a west elm set. The quality of the fabric and cushions was head and shoulders above most things we looked at. We bought on a 30% off sale and it was still expensive. However, the quality is nice.

West elm is the same company as pottery barn

Not saying it’s a bad thing - I used to work for pottery barn

Quality is good - when I worked for PB 80% of the stuff was made in USA with good quality materials - it is pricey though
