Oh yeah! Southerners! You are one dumb frick if you think areas that never get this kind of thing should be able to handle it like people who see it all the time.

Exactly, look what a little Tropical storm did to New Jersey. Stick a category 1 hurricane in the middle of the north and see what happens. Same situation as sticking some ice and snow down south
The cultural disconnect is actually really interesting. Here in DC it's sort of a half south half north situation and I feel like we don't deal with winter weather as well as other northern cities. The roads do get salted which is most important, but I feel like people just understand how dangerous it is to drive when there is precipitation in sub-freezing temperatures.

Explain that to Employers who strong arm people into working

You call my boss and tell him that
....you want to keep a job get on that road
Sucks but we haven't slowed down a bit. Had a few call-ins and they won't be excused unless they live 30+ mins away

Sorry man. I just left a situation like that and trust me, you need to get a better job. I worked for a self centered SOB like that off and on for 14 years. My new boss has his flaws but is much, much better in that regard. My quality of life during the week is so much better too.
Anyway, completely different topic.

Georgia governor getting raked over the coals right now at a press conference.

More to do with the area schools. The schools had the forecast and the weather did exactly what was forecasted. The schools held the kids three hours after the snow started then called every parent in Georgia to come get their kid.
a bunch of ppl in the command chain should lose their job over that. But parents should be partly responsible too. They should have never put their kids on the buses to school anyway.

This thing is bad. We know of people, one case a 4 month old baby, and they were trapped out there. They closed our Atlanta office until Friday.

No it didn't...they were forecasting a slight snow, not four inches

In Baton Rouge you could at least see how it hit Jackson and Monroe to see what would happen. Gave you a few hours to get ready, which is what you really need.

I hate this whole North/South bullshite.
First, half of Atlanta is carpetbaggers.
Second, there isn't a northerner around that can drive on 1 1/2 thick black ice despite what their peanut brains think.

Learn to read. The timing was unexpected.
If it was so expected why did all those dumbasses get stranded. It's the government's job to tell them what to do?
Can't you think for yourself?

I think it's been sufficiently covered, but to reiterate, you're an idiot.

This is mainly the result of people getting tired of hearing about how the south shuts down for an inch of snow and transplant northerners who are eager to show how "skilled" they are in these conditions. Well, a huge portion of those who went to work and are now stuck are these people from up north.
Schools systems tired of these same northern parents calling in and bitching any time school is canceled for a little icy weather. So....they didn't "cry wolf" this time and it results in the clusterfrick we have today.

I saw pics of people in Atlanta sleeping in stores and such.

What a joke. An inch of snow? Try a foot plus. Snow so damn high its pass your ankles.
Its interesting how people meltdown and make stupid decisions when the snow hits the ground in the southern part of the country.

Not quite sure what your point is, but I agree with your statement on its face.
Just speaking of Atlanta, half the people stuck in cars are dumbass northerners who made stupid decisions despite their greater experience.
With the disclaimer that their "experience" is in cities where snow is not turning to a 1 1/2 inch sheet of ice. They quickly learn that their experience doesn't prepare them for that.

In all fairness the NWS TOTALLY blew this one for the central/northern parts of Alabama and Georgia. They were calling for MAYBE a light dusting of snow...nothing about ice...OOPS.
