As an adult, on your own, how many times have you owned a house?

Twice, for me.
Built my first house around the age of 24. Stayed in it for 8 years. Lived with my then in-laws because we wanted a larger house in a better public school district, and were expecting our first child. We sold shortly after Katrina hit. Interest rate was 6.875 % on a 30-year loan.
My current house, I've been in it for almost 16 years. Refinanced nearly 3 years ago due to a divorce. 2.5 % on a 15-year loan.
I'm curious how many times many of you have moved around --- and do you see yourself staying where you currently are at until the end?
I'd like to think that I will move out of state eventually (though I don't want an interest rate that is nearly 3 x higher than what I currently have). The older I get, I become more and more aware that there are plenty of other areas of the country that offer a much better quality of lifestyle, including weather, crime, opportunities, and scenery.

Twice as well. We bought our starter home right after we got married in 2005. We lived in it for 8 years. We've been in our current house for 11 years or so.
I expect we'll move one more time at some point. Our youngest is a SR in high school, and this house will be half empty once she's gone and too much to keep up with as we get older.

Been in my house for about 5 years.
Interest rates and prices are keeping me financially responsible for the foreseeable future. If rates were below 3 I’d probably be looking to upgrade.

If you pay property taxes, you never really own it. Miss a tax payment and see how fast government slaps a lean on it, if not outright sell it.

I have never not owned a house since I bought my first one in 2013 which would have been age 26. Bought a HUD home in Walls, MS for $37,000. Kept that house as rental and the area grew. Bought a second a third home when I moved to Oxford and they have all become rentals. Been a great experience. I was lucky, but buying my first home created wealth I would have never been able to acquire from just my work job income.

Are we talking my real home or vacation home in the Alps?

Owned free and clear or owned with the bank? Big difference.
I have owned 6 in total - never free and clear.
I move a fair amount for my profession so that drove the number higher.

True. I haven't owned any free and clear. I was down to 6 years on the house that I am in right now, but had to "reset and start over."
I think I have just over 12 years left.

Lived in two. Paid off both at the age of 40.

We have a 2.3% rate so I have no real incentive to pay it off early at this point. I think we have 9 years left until ours will be paid off if we still live here.

Rates below 3? You won't ever see it again.

I'm in my 3rd house and once the wife finally retires, we'll be in #4.
Bought my first one by age 23 in 1975, a shotgun single in the Lower 9th Ward. Spent the next 4 years working on it bit by bit and sold it in 82 and bought the second house.
The one I'm in now was bought in 92 and will be, by far, the most profitable for me when it comes time to sell. It will afford me the opportunity to buy a smaller, retirement home with a few acres in a rural setting AND put a decent amount of money into investments. I own this one outright and have no mortgage since I paid it off after Katrina in 05.

I own my house and the best part is there is no mortgage company signing off on insurance claims.
