This happened in Bocage, which is supposed to be the pinnacle area of Baton Rouge. The city is going down like the Hindenburg.

what a shitty place to rob.

Well they probably paid $6.50 for their Venti Spiced Pumpkin Crapachino and felt like they themselves were robbed.

It's also maybe 1.5 miles from Valley Park. When the guys doing the robbing can drive back to the ghetto 5 minutes after the robbery, it's hard to consider an area "safe" from that sort of thing

This guy is clearly talking about DAYS and not years. THIS IS LOUISIANA!

Not armed robbery in Louisiana. Likely get 10-15 on a plea. If you go to trial and lose 50-99.

Lol, armed robbery with a firearm and you plead guilty is 15 flat, across the board, unless there are aggravating circumstances. 10 for armed robbery. 5 for the gun. These are statutory minimums. Judge has no discretion to go lower. So NOLA/BR judges can’t get cute.

Cpl. Smothers was killed on this very date making a night deposit at the Citizen’s Bank right there in front of Bocage.

with the amount of people that use credit cards/debit cards, starbucks app, etc., I wouldnt think the cash on hand would be excessive.

I was recently in a greasy spoon diner where, a few years ago, I don’t think they even accepted cards. The owner said that now about 70% of customers use cards, and that’s increasing every day.

I bet that rate is much higher at places like Starbucks.

Where do people come up with this shite?

Armed robberies of businesses committed with a firearm are among the most difficult cases to resolve, as ADAs are almost always seeking significant jail time. And by significant, I mean a decade+. Getting “simple and seven” (simple robbery and a sentence of seven years) is considered a great deal in all but the rarest of cases.

Literally across the street from one of the nicest neighborhoods in town

St. George would never allow this to happen
