Family and friends of 17-year-old Hunter Brittain gathered outside the Lonoke County sheriff's officer for a second night Thursday and demanded answers from the agency after a deputy fatally shot him.
quote:
Sheriff's office Sgt. Michael Davis, whom authorities said fatally shot Brittain during the encounter, is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
There’s only one other person who was there that morning. Jordan King, 16, spoke to KATV off camera. He said he and Brittain had worked through the night to change the transmission on his truck so he could work that morning and drove about a mile down the road to Mahoney's Body Shop to make the repairs. He said their families are friends with the owner.
King said that after they left the auto shop, Davis pulled them over on Arkansas 89.
King said Brittain's truck wouldn’t go into park, so Brittain got out to grab a blue oil jug to put behind his truck’s tires and stop it from hitting Davis' car. According to King, Davis then fired without telling Brittain to stop or get on the ground.
quote:
“They didn’t say one word that I know of. I didn’t hear it and it happened so fast,” King said.
King said another deputy soon arrived and detained him.
“[He] told me get out with my hands up and pull my shirt up and stuff, and then took me to the ground, put me in handcuffs and was dragging me around and stuff," King said. "And then I sat in the back of the cop car for about three hours."
quote:
At one point Thursday protesters in pickup trucks did burnouts in the parking lot of the sheriff's office. Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley went outside and asked them to stop.
Staley released a video on Facebook earlier in the day saying that he’s provided state police with body camera footage of the shooting. He said that while everyone wants the truth, he isn’t sure how much of the incident was captured on camera.

Police have too much power.
Get rid of qualified immunity so these trigger happy nut jobs have to think twice before ending someone’s life.
Because I know someone will give me the split second decision argument. If he was that scared of someone grabbing a jug, he needs a new fricking job.

Probably thought he was grabbing a black guy so he shot preemptively. No way he was shooting a white kid with all that privilege they have

Time for White Lives Matter to step up

Dude was 17 w 2 kids. I'd venture to say he had a dgaf attitude which more than likely led to his death.

Brittain’s death isn’t ruling the airwaves

It’s an accurate commentary couched in sarcasm.

Another day of me getting to post
But muh blue lives matter
Police around the country are running out of allies. Your post sums up what needs to happen. The whole practice of policing should be as regulated as the medical field.

Yeah I know it’s gonna piss some of you off to pay more taxes but as much bullshite that you already pay taxes on you might as well have something that actually matters that your tax dollars goes to.

Look at Louisiana troopers. They go thru rigorous boot camp style training and get paid really well... they also just beat a guy to death and the agency sat on the evidence to protect their own.
It’s a culture problem and once all the good ones leave, we’re fricked

This. The other day I saw some baw with a Gadsden and Thin Blue Line flag on his F150… almost turned into road rage.

Why would anyone want to be a cop? Just look at some of the responses in here. Black people definitely hate you and white libs do as well and there’s no changing their minds. It’s not worth it

You should probably educate yourself on what this actually means rather than regurgitating something you heard while watching CNN.

He doesn’t know what the word qualified means

Based on your description, it sounds like the kid quickly got out of the truck and reached in the bed of the truck to retrieve the oil jug. He could have just as easily been retrieving a firearm. This is a tragedy, but you can’t just jump out of a vehicle and immediately reach where the officer can’t see.

I'm sure it went down exactly as the passenger described.
