It’s amazing how much water the Arkansas river carries . Then combine it with the Mississippi at the point it does and your talking massive amounts of water . Prayers to those affected and hopefully the river will start to drop soon. The high levels for this length of time make me nervous

Jesus, how much do we have to pay to get a proactive, engaged mayor like this in Baton Rouge?

Demographics. Dardanelle is much different than Baton Rouge.

It is scary that all we can do is watch.

The crest has seemed to level out, fortunately.

If it wasn’t for the floodplain (known locally as the “big ditch”) they dug in Wichita in the ‘50s the city would be in a bad way right now. My apartment is about a half mile from the big ditch and it’s usually nothing more than a small stream. It’s a full on river right now from all the water that’s having to be released into it.

At Ozark the entire lock wasn't submerged, it was at Dardenelle, but the street of Dardenelle we looked at was a pretty good ways up from the water, pretty neighborhood.
On my way through Dardanelle last night, it looks like the river will have to get up another 12/15 feet for the water to over top the road and shut it down. Multiple bridges closed here in Fort Smith, it's just crazy!

3 of the 4 bridges that cross the Arkansas between Ft Smith and Van Buren are closed and the river hasn’t peaked yet.

Delta baw here... I'm right between the Arkansas and white river... I know it's bad here when our 30 ft swell ditches fill up and the water starts to get on the highway... other than that, I'm just going to get beat out

Forecast to beat the record by almost a foot and a half and the actual appear to be slightly higher than the projections.

Yikes

Heck, it was still snowing in Colorado just a few days ago. Crazy

This time last week we had 6-12" on the ground. Everything south of Monument flows into the Arkansas. Drainage north of Monument (e.g., Denver) is into the Platte.

Folks coming up to the Fayetteville regional will most likely have to cross the river in Little Rock to get up to campus. All the bridges are being closed. Fort Smith and Ozark bridges are shut down from what I've heard.

Found this interesting. Below is a map of all sources which feed the Arkansas. That's a gigantic catch footprint. With rainfall not subsiding anywhere within that area I assume things will take a while to get back to normal low levels.

And all that water feeds the Mississippi .

My older brother lives in a town along the Cottonwood River, which eventually feeds into the Arkansas via the Neosho River. He told me he has had 17 inches of rain in May alone. That is normally at least six months worth of rain around these parts.

My sister lives in Tulsa a few blocks from the Arkansas River between 111th and 121st streets. Her house was in the clear until they decided to open up the floodgates even more a couple days ago. With the rain the way its coming down today - She's looking to get 1-3ft in her house. Sucks... bc its a gorgeous place. Looks like I'll be spending my birthday next week helping her muck it out rather than tipping a glass in NOLA. That's family.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen water on the riverfront in vidalia. Lucky for them the levees there are massive because the flood waters would probably connect to the black river. That whole area is just cotton field bottoms.
