Arkansas river flooding.

Did a search and didn’t see anything. Worried about y’all baws down south. River levels are going to break the 1990 flood we had in Little Rock.
I’m not sure how the flooding here effects you guys in Louisiana. I know where the Arkansas River flows in, it’s wider.
Anyways. Hope it doesn’t get too bad down there.

It's been discussed in the Morganza/BR river level thread but its deserving of its own discussion.
The video that ACOE officer made last week was pretty alarming. They really are just gonna let the river do its thing

I figured it would be bad, I’ll try to get some pics from social media, to post on here. In 1990, I was 9 and I still remember vividly how bad the flooding was.

Yeah I saw that. They really don’t have a choice. The way he explained it, is that the damns aren’t in place for flood control. Only to maintain a certain depth. They can’t hold back the water so they are going to let the River run it’s course

Here's a link to a FB video that shows the river levels at Dardanelle/Russellville and the lock and dam there. Water flowing pretty good through the dam. Heard a dam up near Ft. Smith has been topped by the water. It's hard to tell unless you're familiar with the area, but the river looks about 2.5 times as wide as it normally does. Crest in this area expected Friday.

Dang. That video is pretty remarkable.
The Arkansas flows to the MR, doesn't it?

It does and I believe it’s above Greenville, where it flows in at.

Heck, it was still snowing in Colorado just a few days ago. Crazy

As I write this the flood numbers are still changing. With that being said, we are doing everything possible to prepare this city for this disaster. The one thing that is different about this flood than any other, is the fact that the water levels are supposed be higher than anything that we have ever seen in Dardanelle. So that makes it harder to plan for. We have taken elevation readings all over town today and now have a pretty solid ideal of what the water will do. We are working hard for you and have had a lot of help with sand bags. I will need some more help over the next 2 days filling and moving sand bags if anyone is available, at the city shop on south 5th and tucker st. Tomorrow we will start flying the drone in order to get a better ideal on the water levels. I will update you on everything tomorrow when I have a more confident ideal of the water height. Please be patient as we prepare for the flood, city hall will be manned this weekend so you can call and get info. I know you have a lot of questions and fears, I just want to make sure our numbers are as accurate as possible before I post them.
Mayor Jimmy L Witt
Dardenelle, AR

Billy’s in Krotz Springs is fricked isn’t it? There is just so much water from the mid west and the eastern Rockies. I heard a number that they were hoping to siphon off/redirect 150,000 ft^3 per second in order to help alleviate flooding.
That’s over 1,000,000 gallons per second that will be going through a side flood control structure.

More rain forecast all over for the rest of the week. Each will affect the Ark and Miss rivers.

Jesus, how much do we have to pay to get a proactive, engaged mayor like this in Baton Rouge?

Water would have to get above fryer level to stop the constant 30+ people in line.

Doesn't Krotz Springs have a levee system around it? It might get cut off, but things have to get real high or the levee break to flood the town itself.
ETA: Yep. USACE map showing levees around Krotz Springs.

Drove through Dardanelle yesterday and Conway today. River is larger than I have ever seen it and still not done rising. Seriously desperate situations for a lot of people

I visited Ozark yesterday. They were mostly in good shape at that time, not sure how much higher it is going to get.
lot of water though
At Ozark the entire lock wasn't submerged, it was at Dardenelle, but the street of Dardenelle we looked at was a pretty good ways up from the water, pretty neighborhood.
