You are thinking the doctors of the future are going to have to pay 500k for a medical degree. The government gives it to them for free. Just like their rent. And their food. And their cell phone. And their internet. And their electricity. And their water.

Ahhh hadn't considered that, but surely then we'd just have a bunch of poorly trained and doctors that just want to do enough to get buy. If they have no reason to strive for perfection and build up a specialized practice and be the best and make a lot of money, then why even be a doctor. Not saying its all about money for them, but if there is ever an area, besides art, where a meritocracy should exist its in the medical field.

Nooo money isn’t something someone would move halfway across the globe for. Especially doctors who totally just want to save lives for free because “no one should have to go broke over life saving surgery”

no I agree. a lot of the prices are regarding liability coverages and insurance shite. I wouldn't say our health care system is perfect, but is light years ahead of any universal shite in Europe (and probably Canada although I'm not super familiar with Canada and I often forget they exist).

He is literally stating a fact. That insurance pays most medical costs. I don’t think he cast any opinion one way or the other about how he feels about the provision on health care in America and funding it.

Of course people can't pay. Because healthcare in the U.S. is grossly overpriced and most expensive. My mother had a two day stay at the hospital for high blood pressure. The final bill ended up being $15000. For two fricking days! And that's just the hospital. Let's not forget the physician charge for every motherfricker that comes visit you during the day. Most insurances don't pay full price. Your looking at a 10-20% coinsurance of that price. If you ain't got insurance forget about it.

I think if the doc simply wipes the patients debt off the books it’s his business not the IRS, nothing is reported. If he records the debts as a loss on his income then each of them would be reported, and it would be taxable to the patient.

I know a Louisiana infectious disease specialist that did the same for the family of a man he couldn’t save. Just cancelled the near $300k bill he was owed.
