That sucks. That area NW of Houston is growing like crazy

Yeah, it’s not ideal if it was where we planned to be forever, but our plan is to build out the property with a wedding venue and about 20 tiny home rentals and then once we have good management for it we can go somewhere farther out to retire.

The subdivisions and development in the area will just create more local demand for the venue and cabins, because there are no hotels nearby.

I'm on 10 acres in the Big Bend of Florida , But I'm completely surrounded by 93 thousand acres of Pine Timberland.
Dead end dirt road with a gate and plenty of ammo.
One good thing is the Trucks Gone Wild Iron Horse Mud Ranch is 3 miles away...so there's always T&A and music and beer kinda close by..

Get some perspective.
If you can't mow it quickly enough, you need a bigger piece of equipment.

It’s a pain in the arse in some ways, especially since hurricane Laura.

I cant imagine dealing with that kind of cleanup. Dealing with limbs and trees after an ice storm in OK is bad enough but nothing like hurricane damage on you coastal areas.

I have acreage. Unfortunately it's not here but I do get to it pretty often. Living in he middle of 80 acres surrounded by trees and without another house in sight is a wonderful feeling.

The idea that I can pee off the deck, fire off a few rounds and not have to worry about offending anyone is just phenomenal.

Plus land is probably the most stable investment you can make
Land experiences at least 4X the volatility of the real estate structures on top of it. Stated differently, when you see house prices go up and down, it's largely the land that is fluctuating.

Yep. Moving in about 3 weeks to my wooded 20 acres with no neighbors. Was in the city for the last 20+ years. Peace and quiet

The wife and I live on 6 acres in Copiah County, Ms. I can piss off the porch and nobody knows. We live 250 yards off the road with a pond in front of the house. Pasture in the front and pasture in the back. I ain't moving to town. Been here 20 years and love it. We have 30 acres west of Brookhaven in Franklin County, Ms on McCall Creek, (deer and turkey). I love that place. Did I say I ain't moving to town?

Having a lot of land doesn't mean that it all needs to be fields you have to bushhog. You can have 100 acres and have 2 you need to mow.

Years ago, a friend invited me to dinner to show slides he had taken on a visit to mutual friends' property in West Virginia.

It wasn't that they owned a lot of land but they owned tens of acres that abutted a federal installation of a (IIFC) research "telescope" and that would never be sold.

Sometimes opportunity defines itself by what will never be an irritant.

We are in Amite County on 90 acres. The house is off the road a ways down a long gravel driveway. We hunt , fish, shoot and trap on this land. My next move will be to the cemetery. I don’t plan on ever moving and I’d bet my middle son lives here forever as well.

We aren’t far from McCall creek. I love me some Grannies corner .

We have a creek on the east side, a creek on the south side, a railroad track on the north side and family on the west side that I can buy out should they choose to sell. We are well insulated.

My parents have a few acres themselves and maybe maintain half of it. Around the house and all, rest of it is woods. Makes for a nice privacy/sound barrier.

One of the best reasons to but acreage is to keep other people from buying and developing it. Who wants to hunt in a subdivision?
