You don’t have to be around people that annoy you.

That is even better than my initial mental image. That is a hell of a property/ location. Tell your parents never to sell it, but that goes without saying.

I can provide for everything I and my family needs off of 10 acres. All the beef, pork, vegetables, poultry, eggs, fruit, literally everything.

I won’t do milk because I’m not messing with a milk cow or goat but with acreage I can be 99% independent of grocery stores.

Wife and I bought 24.5 acres NW of Houston and are building a wedding venue and putting tiny home rentals on about 10 acres of it. Once we have it running and get a good manager in place for it we will be retired in our 40’s with a solid source of income. Having land gives you the freedom to be independent from corporate America and to get away from the crime and issues in a city.

Not on a huge plot, but 3 acres outside Folsom.
Full house generator, 1000 gallon propane tank buried, well and septic tank.
Fully self sufficient whenever shite goes sideways.
You should try going outside at night and really seeing the stars….without the halo glow of city lights. I probably pay less in property taxes than you pay in HOA fees every year.

it borders Glacier National Park, a mile from the entrance. They just bought it before the boom during Covid. They’d never sell it or they’d have to over my dead body

I have acreage and I love it, I enjoy the peace and the wildlife. You don’t have to upkeep all of it….most of my acreage is wooded….only cleared out 1.5 acres around the house. And I wouldn’t have bought it if I couldn’t afford the taxes. Paying the extra taxes is worth not having a house 25’ from yours on both sides.

Not really. Just an acre to 5 acres. Most land here is public, I don't need a lot for myself.

I want to buy an island somewhere around here, or at least part of an island.

But why?

When I sit down at my breakfast table and look east, I see nothing for 500 yards except a green field and live oaks. The treeline begins there.

Let alone the expenses of taxes

Under 500 per year for this section if you take away the house.

insurance

My homeowners covers this section. A million policy on the other parts is under 1500 a year.

upkeep

Guys pay 1500 or so a year for me to let some grass grow. They cut it. I only keep maybe 6 acres cut short.

expenses

My yearly right of ways are roughly 10x the cost of insurance. Minus limestone and it's a wash.

We bought a house on two acres in Anna Tx…
Never really had this huge urge to live in the country but now after only a 1.5 years, can’t imagine living in a neighborhood again and definitely won’t live in an HOA controlled one.
We live on a gravel road with only 3 other houses…it is awesome.

Our new place is like this. Nestled in the back of 20 acres. I work from home, my wife is a stay at home mom. If we do not leave the property we won't even see another vehicle driving by much less a person.

I enjoy it.
I have 19 acres in Morgan County, UT. I've been sitting on house plans for almost four years waiting on this housing boom to burn out. Thankfully I purchased this spot thirteen years ago when things were inexpensive comparatively because of the '08 recession.

Fully? You are making power and enough food sustain everyone there?

The more acreage I can get means the farther away from everyone else I can get.
