I agree. We will all gravitate to our comfort zones, and Louisiana has plenty of those for me along with being home. Always easy to find something to hammer the state about, but my bubble is safe and great. I don’t need to move to be happy, and I love the feel of home.

I get that it’s not for everyone, and that’s perfectly fine. I just don’t want people justifying their decision based on “We ran from that shite hole gladly! Never coming back!” If that’s you, your perception was wrong for personal reasons. I hope you’ve all found happiness. But Louisiana is a beautiful state with beautiful culture. It’s not a bad place at all.

Admittedly not a southerner but I feel like a problem in the deep south (MS, LA in particular) is that the low cost of living is cancelled by the need to send kids to private school. You save on taxes and cost of living in general but then have to spend 10k a year each kid because the local public school is so bad. I'd imagine a lot of the people on here who live in BR or NO and send their kids to places like Episcopal or Newman are spending the same or not much less than someone who lives in NY or CA. Just an observation based on the few months I've been posting on here.

I don't have kids but the private school situation is basically in the big cities. You can still live on the northshore or St. Charles Parish and work in New Orleans and your children are in some of the best school districts in the state. Same goes for the surrounding areas of Baton Rouge. Not sure how those school districts compare to schools in other parts of the country but they are very good for the south from what I understand.

I honestly think about it all the time. My daughter graduates in 2025 and there’s nothing keeping me here after that.

So, leaving is exasperating the situation

I mean The whole state isn’t just a prison colony. It has it’s bad neighborhoods but Crime general isn’t something I worry About in my day to day.

And who’s politicians are great? Live in the right parish and you’re fine

This paragraph right here is indicative of your approach to this entire topic. I have not segregated myself away, nor have I paid some egregious premium to do so. My kids have all gone to public school, my daughter made better than a 30 on her ACT, scholarships, all that jazz.

Horrible lifestyle choices by individual groups drive those numbers, and, yes, it’s driven in large part by a larger concentration of minorities.

You’re looking for white areas, SFP. You’re legit making the argument to segregate yourself, whether it’s in a localized area in a state, or moving to a state like Utah (white as white gets) in order to meet the trends you’re looking for.

I live in North Louisiana and I see more and more South Louisiana families buying or building homes up here. Real Estate is booming on Caney Lake. Lots of really nice hunting camps being built too.

Pretty much. I don’t tolerate the opinion that Louisiana is the anus of America.

naw we have PLENTY of white trash in this state. they out-number the lower class of any other race

when i get into these discussions i actually only think about white trash when i'm talking about demographic issues. obese, smoking, white people who are only qualified to be a cashier at a convenience store or get on disability

also, this isn't just about the time being. we always talk about recruiting better/professional jobs to LA. how is that possible? will this be easier or worse, given our population, over the next 10-20 years? we have lost corporate jobs for these very reasons, and have not replaced many of them.

Nola is also about to be economically devastated over the next 5-10 years. LC was the economic engine keeping our job numbers respectable for the past 5 years and that ship seems to have sailed (due to Saudi Arabia dumping oil on the world market). Lafayette is going to take it on the chin, too.

those nice enclaves are about to get much more rare

How’s those property taxes and utilities treating your pocket book

I’m pretty sure the majority of people would pay higher property taxes for great schools, parks, and athletic facilities.

Not to mention no state income tax and every cousin I have in LA sends their kids to private schools.

I have zero problem with people moving away and saying it was a great decision for them, of course

But I when people act like Houston or Dallas are these flawless Meccas. It’s fricking hilarious

Would definitely consider it. Unfortunately between low cost of living and some of the highest pay in the industry being in south LA, it really makes it a difficult decision.

The Left seems to be doing it quite well. If you want change, it comes from within each and every person not happy with current conditions.

If you hate living in LA, by all means do what's best for yourself and family.

Yes.

Heading north to either Woodville or Centreville next year.

Enough of the LA political mismanagement.
