I have seen people wash items that go into the trash or recycle bin.

empty jar of peanut butter - washed, dried, put in recycle bin
styrofoam from bottom of package of meat - washed, dried, put in trash

Is this normal? Are we all supposed to do this?

Absolutely. You don’t wash your trash?

Please start doing it

I do because my inside “recycling center” is labeled baskets, and not a closed bin... I don’t want to smell the stuff until it gets brought outside

PS - I fricking love recycling

One thing that comes to mind is milk gallons. I always wash those out before trashing them.

Never heard of washing trash.

I’d never heard of washing ice either until I saw it on here

I always clean the recycle stuff. Saves them $$$ and if they don’t make $$$, all this shite goes on the landfill.

So at least rinse your recycle stuff and remove the lids. That is a different kind of plastic that has to recycle different from the containers.

If it’s something that will smell and I’m not taking the trash out anytime soon then I’ll rinse it out. I don’t know about drying it though. Why would I dry it?

I just pour out anything with a liquid in it. I don’t like cleaning up a drippy mess after taking the trash out.

What is recycle? All things go in the trash. And no, we don’t wash the garbage.

I don't recycle. I want the landfills to get full. Maybe when that happens they'll stop wasting our tax dollars on global warming stuff and spend it on research to figure out how to reclaim the landfills. Sooner the better.

We aren't allowed to put pizza boxes in recycling because of the cheese that potentially sticks to the box.

So I guess the answer is yes, the recycling centers prefer recycled goods that don't have food residue.

Jokes on them, though, because we just don't recycle now instead of making sure the stuff is clean.
