re: Are you looking forward to getting a full electric vehicle?

Not unless the government gives me one. I drive cheap used vehicles and keep them forever, don't ever see a electric vehicle fitting into either of those categories.

Aren't you mostly electric now?

No, the more gas guzzlers the better as far as I'm concerned.

I thought I would expand.
For over 20 years I have always had 3 vehicles, a performance car, a travel car for work and a large SUV. Each perform functions that I either need or enjoy.
I love to drive at the track, it is a passion of mine and the electric car is simply better for the track in almost all situations. The electric motors has all the characteristics that IC engines have been striving for. Instant throttle response, full torque from 0 rpm and a linear power "curve" is inherent in the electric motor and while the holy grail of IC motors they simply can do it and movement toward one goal negatively impacts one of the others. Motors also allow for a lower COG and easier weight distribution toward optimal. Electric motors are simply a better solution for the track/performance. Range isn't much of an issue for amateur track day warriors and while you give up the glorious exhaust note for me faster > than sounding better. So I look forward to the day when I can buy an all electric 911.
I travel 5-6 times a year for work and the trips are long (5-6K in 2 weeks) and not feasible via air. This will be the hardest vehicle to go electric, but I would love to. Range is the issue, almost every day requires more than 400 miles of driving, some days over 700. At a point where the charging infrastructure is ubiquitous, range exceeds 400 miles in all weather conditions and one can get 80% or more charge in less than 15 minutes I would be a buyer but that won't happen any time soon.
Electric cars are the future but likely batteries are a stopgap for a far more energy dense storage solution such as fuel cells. IC engined cars will become an anachronism, there is really nothing outside sound that they bring to the table in the long run when energy storage, infrastructure and recharging times hit the critical mass.

You sound old. Maybe just retire.

Will miss the "Took my PE test today!" threads.

Funny thing is, they all roll coal. It's just cool that you can't see it.

I don’t know, I always enjoy being judged by the vegans there.

Electric cars will take off when they’re a better option than conventional vehicles. That means better range, no recharge times, no cold weather issues, and a price point that is no more expensive than a conventional vehicle.
It may be a while.

We were at a boat show recently, and they put a BMW I-3 battery cell on this prototype. Full electric boat. On water...

It would be a pain in the arse to have to wait at a charging station for more than a half hour.
If I drove from Houston to New Orleans, 50 miles from my destination I’d have to pull off and charge for a half an hour.
Stupid.

The problem with the joke is the Mission E is a 4 door and all 4 door Porsches built have the engine in the front.

A year old golf cart can barely make it around an 18 hole golf course without struggling to get up hills by the last hole or 2.
It will be a number of years before I get an all electric vehicle.
Disclaimer: I do not like gas powered golf carts, and prefer the electrics, but they need to be new, or at least have a new battery.
