Are you at odds with coworkers over your level of Covid concern?
Posted by Slippy on 5/25/20 at 10:27 am4135
They want signs, tape, plexiglass, masks in the halls, something called a daily certification app, sanitizer on every table, etc.
I have pushed back against all this and it has caused some tension. My laissez faire attitude about it is getting me judged as insufficiently concerned. I am not a team player.

Just lie tell them you have the antibody and they will leave you alone.

No. Our entire team DGAF at this point. We’ve all seen covid patients, have been exposed to people who have ended up being covid patients while initially here for something else, etc. Most of those exposures have occurred while not wearing covid level PPE. Nobody from our department has had any symptoms. Actually only 2 employees in the entire hospital have tested positive.
ETA: we do have one younger guy in his mid 20s who is a per diem. He refused to come in throughout the busiest days of the pandemic. When he came back 2 weeks ago he started posting on Instagram him walking into the hospital in scrubs and taking footage of the stupid healthcare heroes signs. He was mocked relentlessly afterwards especially by the females in the department.

They'd probably freak out more thinking he had the virus and didn't take PPE seriously.
I have a couple of friends that work with each other. One is very liberal and the other is fairly conservative. They've been really good friends the last five years or so, but the conservative one doesn't think he can continue to work with the other one after all this.
Just the constant Trump bashing and then the complete over reaction to the whole corona stuff. He hasn't told me everything, but I know the liberal one well enough that I'm sure I'd have the same reaction.

As far as my work, we sell PPE to hospitals and other companies and our shop is filled to the ceiling with masks, isolation gowns, hand sanitizer and soon to be nitrile gloves, but none of us are wearing them.
Eta: we are doing what most should be doing. Using hand sanitizer and washing our hands. If anyone is sick then stay home.

Haven't gone back yet, but I'm sure it will happen relatively soon once we do. There were several people freaked the frick out before we shutdown, and I'm pretty sure they will be worse once returning.

I hate Trump but am not liberal (we do exist). I don’t think everything needs to stay shut down but do believe people should still exercise some degree of caution. The constant “you are sheep if you choose to wear a mask” type posts on here and fb is annoying.
Eta: Not at odds with my coworkers at all. All of us actually on the same page really.

Yeah that’s the worst.

About the same as most of them.
My wife? My best friend?
Kinda wondering if we’re gonna make it to 2021 together.

I am not as concerned, but I know some of the people I work with are. I don't mind going out of my way to do extra to help them feel comfortable, especially when it comes to health issues. I also have been surprised by health issues coworkers are having in the past, so I don't assume anymore I know someone isn't going through something. I'm just being a team member and moving on. If it gets things opened back up it is worth it to me.
On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is terrified I am about a 4, my wife is a 9, my brother - who is admittedly high risk- is a 10. Most people I have dealt with are between 2 and 4 and are questioning the “science” of the shut down. Seems like the trend is more to open things up and let the public choose to stay home or not

Not at odds but it's certainlbpointed out the sheep amongst us with signs all over their office/cubicles and tape on the floor. Mainly women.

I would be if I told them my feelings. I`m pretty eure everyone else is scared to death and they are miltary so it's pretty depressing. The media and facebook is doing a hell of a job on this generation.

I just bolded the things that cost very little. If you are giving significant pushback on those items, it's because you're intending to make a cultural/political stand, not because you have some pressing argument against. You should at least own that.
