My wife drives me insane with this in a drive through.

Me: what would you like?

Her: pull up to the menu so I can see

Me: it’s the same menu that’s been there 20 years. You need to see it again?

Because restaurants serve a variety of different dishes. Do you order your idea of what you might want or what you actually feel like eating? Is that too hard to understand? People don't eat the same shite every time they go somewhere. I mean all you do is think about what you are going to order in the car on the way there? I'm having trouble understanding why this is a big deal

I typically look at a menu online before I go to a restaurant, unless we're out and stop in a restaurant that is nearby.

You should either tell the waiter her order, or allow your wife to order before you baw.

In the drive thru, my wife has a bad habit of changing/adding to what she already told me she wanted after I've started ordering. Same thing if I'm on the phone calling in an order.

I am so efficient that I take my plate directly to the toilet and drop it right in. Screw the middle man. For some reason, I'm hungry all the time, tho.

I try to be efficient to avoid screw-ups in the order. Stop the conversation when waiter arrives, don't distract with irrelevant questions, point to the item on the menu and clearly state the name (and number if applicable ) of the item, followed by choices of sides, dressing, drink, etc. with enough time in between for the waiter to write or note them. Look at them to make sure it is registering.

I've told people at my table that their order would be fricked up a certain way, and they look at me like I'm crazy and say, "But that's not what I ordered." Yes, but, the dumbass roundabout way you said it confused the waiter. Watch and see.

Some actually learn from their mistakes.

23 years in the restaurant industry and I can tell you that the customer is their own worst enemy. Even more so than the crappy McDonald's workers. There is a reason why working in the industry for a small stint would teach many life lessons. The first one being that the employee hates you. You are more likely to be a pain in their arse so take a moment and try to not be.

Reading through this thread this appears to be a common theme, including my wife. I guess they don't give a shite and figure the order taker can wait.

I'm a pretty efficient orderer of food, but what really gets on my nerves is when I order a dish, and right as I am about to immediately specify the salad, sides, etc, the server interrupts me to ask what I want with it. Let me finish, bitch.

My idea of what I want is what I want to eat, unless something new just happens to catch my eye on the menu. I don't understand this big process of deliberation. It's food, not a life insurance policy.

So lets say I may want fish, maybe I want to look over the entire menu and see if they have any fish options that interest me. Maybe I don't see one so then I move on to my 2nd option. It may take 10 minutes. Who gives a frick, can I enjoy my drink and some bread first?

Depends on what kind of restaurant we're talking about. Fast food places, I'm a wizard. At other non-fast food places, I might not order quickly enough if I've never been there, or I'm trying something new.

My dad had a stroke around a year ago. When we go to places he knows, he has no trouble ordering. If we're eating somewhere that's new to him, he's started ordering whatever I order. I try to stick to the places he knows. For some reason he always gets whatever I get if we do any drive through.

Yes I am. I order what the chef has on the menu, without changing anything. And no other diner has to wait on me.

Same. I don't get people who order their food and then seem shocked when the server asks what side they want or what salad dressing they want. Do you not read what comes with your meal and pick it out beforehand?

Pisses me off my wife can't figure out what to eat when we do fast food. Granted we don't eat it a lot, but still, how do people not know an idea of what they want.

In her defense of drive-thru, you are prompted to order the second you pull up and places have all kinds of options they used to not have years ago. I mean, Wendy's or Jack in the Box may as well be full service restaurants between the numerous burger options, chicken sandwiches, salads, nuggets, wraps, tacos, appetizers, etc.

Also there's no menu you can read before you get up there, and most fast food restaurants have terribly designed menus on their websites that are so hard to navigate.

Yeah, Jack in the Box used to have a menu posted a few feet before the speaker, and then another at the speaker. If nobody was behind me, I'd stop at the one away from the speaker first.

Dude, some people seriously suck at communicating. Drives me insane. I can't grasp how some otherwise intelligent, personable people I know just cannot say things in a direct and easy-to-understand way.

Taco Bell comes to mind for me. Something about it makes me feel overwhelmed
