there is nothing hipster about Shaya. By hipster does the author mean anything that opened in the last 5 years? New York Times/Post both need to give up writing about New Orleans, these articles get worse and worse.

Yep. That says it's going to suck just by that quote you put up.
Fcking idiots.

And most of the OT thinks anyone not dressed like a fratstar or in camo is a hipster.

And by putting this headline on a NY Post article, New Orleans is now officially not a hipster hot spot.

Thank you NY Post.

Last time I checked, jambalaya doesn't have tomatoes in it. Creole does not equal Cajun.

SS - You hang out at these types of hip establishments?

While enjoying breakfast at Satsuma in Bywater on Sunday morning, I did look around and wonder, "where the frick did these people come from?"

New Orleans has been always an odd-ball place that attracts all types. To limit it strictly as a hipster hotspot is short changing the city.

It certainly has hipster vibes and is one the more "hipster-y" cities in the South.

Or has anything besides completely mainline tastes in food or music.

My favorite things about New Orleans are definitely its voodoo culture and Cajun cuisine.

They actually call Alon a hipster which is absurd. He is as far from hispter as any chef in New Orleans.

Everyone, even if only tangentially or remotely, belongs to some sort of social group, the members of which exhibit similar traits. Don't be naive.

I truly think all the 'alpha' vs 'beta' stuff is puerile but, in this case, I'd have to say the whole 'hipster' thing leans way far to the 'beta' side of the universe.
