I always start buttoning from the bottom but I call it a button-down shirt. Crazy I know!!!
Are you a start from the bottom or start from the top person? And what do you refer to it as?
For your troubles....

Refers to the button down collar.

Yeah, and those are fine for casual shirts these days, but when I wear a tie I have a point collar or something similar.

Button down. I just call it a dress shirt.

ok this has actually been studied by efficiency experts...(dont ask) starting at the bottom and working up is faster by a second or two than from the top down. Read it in a book. Seriously. Sam Patch the Big Time Jumper! was the book if you are curious.

Start at the top.
Pretend I'm a gangster (top button only) for 4 seconds in the mirror.
Finish buttoning down to bottom.

I think I have heard button up more than button down.
ugh, the guys that wear sports shirts as dress shirts... middle school dance cringe worthy. It is almost as bad as a tie without a jacket!

Button down but call it a button up.

Hate ties with button-down collars unless going for frat star look or work in IT support.

I button the pockets on my formal pfg shirts.

Start at 3rd button down going down from there.

This is correct. A dress shirt with a straight collar is not a button-down. Button-down for no tie, straight collar for tie.

What I do. Seems easier to button the top button first and work your way down since it’s closer to the point where the shirt is hanging from (shoulders)

IT people aren't supposed to be in ties. They crawl on the ground and hang out in data closets.

But which way do you start?
