I tend to agree with you, but the facts are that it is already overdue. But when you are a few thousand years overdue, what's a few thousand more?

In a scenario like this where the damage is so massive, I think I would rather be in the kill zone and go immediately than just outside of it and suffer.

Nah, not a fact. Yellowstone has erupted three times - 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and 630,000 years ago. How does that make it overdue?
