I was at a visitor center in Yellowstone, the one with the large scale replica of the park, a couple years back, and overhead some woman explaining to her kids that the forthcoming eruption was a result of global warming.

We had a thread about Yellowstone Super volcano a few months ago. It's like the super bowl for people who are interested in geology.

As to the uninhabitable claim, the ash fall out would likely cover most of the country. Being multiple feet deep near the event out to thin coatings around the edges.
