I always figured that Toyota somewhat conceded the truck market to the domestics when the 2007 model didn’t close the sales gap.

Toyota has had to choose between make more Tacomas or Tundras due to plant capacity. They always choose Tacomas. They are currently building some new plants that will increase capacity.

Plus if you do even an average job of taking care of it, your resale value will be high.

They are very reliable, but the look is getting old. Inside and out

I agree. But the 50K I have to plunk down on a new one will buy me over 17,000 gallons of gas. That's over 250,000 miles. It will take some time to beak even on a better mileage truck. But yeah it is getting pretty dated.

They should have more profit in Tundra's, so this makes no sense.

High resale value is not exclusive to Tundras.

All pickups have excellent resale value. Tundras may be a bit better, but since they don't disocunt like GM and Ford, it is a wash.

Last forever or technology/up to date, that is your choice (Tundra is most reliable, yes)

Not a Tundra but my 2008 FJ Cruiser still runs great. Currently at 215k miles. I’ll keep it hopefully another 100k. I’ve heard of people getting 400k. I’d love that if possible

They know they can sell 2-3 Tacomas for every Tundra produced. Tacoma sales dominates the mid-size market. Tundra in the full size market not so much. They may make less profit on the Tacoma but they sell more to make up the difference over the more profitable Tundra.

And that goes against your initial post that claimed they constrained production of Tundra's in favor of Tacoma's.

Tundra's don't sell well enough to make more of them, otherwise they would.

In fact, Tacoma production has gone up quite a lot the past couple years (surprising as the Colorado is easily the better truck) while Tundra production has been flat.

The Taco production is moving wholely/primarily to Mexico by the end of the 2021 model year.

They did quit making it for a few year, came back 2-3 years ago I think.

And Toyota has a strategy around their production/sales, that's why there aren't thousands of them on lots every day. Keeps the price up, and they discount way less.

Just bought a 2020 Crew Max and like it so far, although the MPG does suck.

Tundra is good, but don’t overlook the new dodge ram. I got a 2500 Limited and it’s awesome. My first truck since I had an S-10 in high school.

Honestly, the interior looks kind of the same as it did 12 years ago.

Ford, GM and Dodge have to update their design more often, so fans don't feel like they're buying the same crappy truck that didn't last 5 years.
