These fly by night companies making sanitizer are mostly using distilled spirits. Ethanol is ethanol but the big boys like Purrel have a process where they run the alcohol through activated charcoal filters which removes impurities including odors. That equipment is expensive and these start-ups simply don't have it. So what you get is raw unfiltered ethanol.

There were a lot of distilleries that switched over to making hands sanitizer. We had a couple of pallets that smelled like everclear.

Some did a better job of it.

We used everclear

I know a guy that just rubs his own shite on his hands. Never uses soap. He says he drinks enough alcohol that his pop is a sterilizer.

I think he’s crazy but he doesn’t have Covid!
