Adding to this, proofreading.

I often get official correspondence for work that looks like it was written by a 10 year old. Take a moment to review what you've written before you send it to me.

No... none at all

Jk
One skill that OweO obviously never learned is how to start a thread that isn't completely stupid and utterly shitty.

Yeah... That's bullshite. You've been reading too many Facebook statuses and OT threads by old curmudgeonly fricks with imagined complaints about millenials.

It's actually the complete opposite. Kids these days are more to get and figure stuff our on their own. Because they know all they have to do is pull out their phone and there's a "How To" video on YouTube for literally anything you could ever possibly need to do or think. And because of that they're more likely to try to do stuff even if they aren't nearly qualified or skilled enough to do.

And most people aged 20-30 would rather avoid speaking to their parents whenever possible.

To most people I would say that you're full of shite, but you're OweO so I know that you actually are just dumb enough to think that.

This one is pretty basic but I feel like I've come across younger people not being able to read a clock or a watch. It baffles me that someone cannot read time that way,

And for that matter ANY writing. The moronic, webcronym bullshite that parents my age type to their kids to not be the "uncool" old frick is more pathetic than just being a not cool old frick.

Tying a tie.

On a more serious note, a trend I've been seeing is that kids don't want to go for a blue collar job these days. There is going to be a major shortage for electricians, plumbers, HVAC, etc. in the future. They think their BS liberal arts degree is going to pay more than a nice union job with full benefits.

This is true, they don't learn to never bite the hand that feeds you.

Have a family member who does not understand this concept. Worked for a family-owned business. Had a talk with the owner about the owners' younger brother. Said he was slacking and not carrying his weight. Said he needed to tighten his brother up, plus he could do a better job. Maybe so, but his name wasn't on the building. He was shocked when he was promoted to customer and shown the sidewalk.

PROGRAMMING

NOWADAYS people don't program shite they install WordPress modules.

An actual programmer who can build shite from the ground up can pretty much write his own check.

I dunno about that, I see lots of kids translating for their parents at my work.

I do notice that kids (not mine) are getting more smart-elic and disrespectful, which is probably an indication of me getting old and grouchy.

My mom and the other females in the family put up vegetables every year. We killed a bunch of hogs in the fall, a lot of things that people just don't do anymore. Going out in the woods for muscadines. We had a huge smokehouse.

This is more of a "should be" than an "is".

I'm 50 and i still hate not knowing something i want to know. Youtube is GREAT for solving this problem. From Calculus to Plumbing, you can learn it in YouTube.

But you know who seems completely unaware of this reality? Young people.

For at least 10 years now, I've been truly befuddled at how often a young person at work tells me they don't know how to do something that 5 minutes on YouTube would solve.

The person that figures stuff out in today's world is a fricking treasured find in today's job market.

Which is stupid because kids can easily pull up 10 videos on YouTube about how to do it in 5 seconds.
