Most of the Presidential detail carry FN P90 sun guns. They have 59 rd mags and have a shoulder sling for easy carrying under the sport coats.

Most Presidential detail SS are some of the best shooters in the US. Probably only ones better are US Air Marshall. I have heard delta force and DEVGRU guys say the air Marshall gun qualification is the toughest in the world.

I wonder why the Treasury Dept is the one that protects the president. I get where their mandate stems from addressing counterfeit currency, and stuff like that. But protection details...?

Seems like it would have fallen to a military team; but then I guess there is always the fear of a military coup led by generals (this, going back to the early 1900s when they first started doing it).

It's pretty amazing how people percolate from a wide swath of entry points to CIA/FBI/SS. A girl I met a few decades ago turned down a track scholarship at Notre Dame to go to Annapolis. She graduated and completed her service requirement. (Leaving out some details from here on for obvious reasons...) From there a FBI SA field office in the SE, was part of an ongoing anti-drug operation, SAIC in the NE, and the last time I heard she was working in DC. Conversely I know the FBI also does some hiring through job fairs at major universities.

The chick in this article seems to be on a lot of the cable shows that need insight about non-classified SS operations. Her takes on popular culture depictions of their role are pretty interesting. (I wonder if her and Bongino crossed paths.)

I suspect it was something that grew from circumstance. If you look at the purpose of it's creation and the timing you'll see a dropoff in counterfeiting. So you had personnel trained to counter potential violent responses to themselves and then the need to protect the president came so it made sense to put that on the department that had a surplus of manpower.

You can look at just about every federal cabinet level department today and find something under its umbrella that belongs elsewhere.

They are bodyguards, not special ops fighters. However, they are heavily armed and are trained to use weapons.
What if told you a lot of SS are prior military who get out and a large amount have special ops experience. Acting like these guys are your basic mall cops and armed security guards is retarded.

I guess it's just timing...

FBI didn't come into existence until decades later (after McKinley's assassination), or I'd guess it would go to them.
But yeah, you wanted trained professionals who were career guys, and not soldiers who tapped out after a decade or so. And with a bit of a detective's eye, not just a combatant.

Treasury probably did have a good pool to draw from, at the inception of it.

Sooo... who downvoted this, and why?

I saw Trump speak in person three times and they were professional. I felt safe where they had jurisdiction. Very good at crowd control making you feel comfortable. You don’t really see the Presidents detail until he arrives and when he leaves, a minute later they disperse quickly and quietly.

I remember when uniformed SS were all over the place for the 2019 natty in Nola because trump was going to the game. I saw this one 5’0 SS girl who couldn’t have weighed more than 100 lbs and had a lesbian Starbucks barista type look about her was seriously wondering how the hell she could take anyone down.

My SIL is a SS agent. He is neither puff nor SEAL. A very nice guy but serious about his job, and good at it. For what it's worth he has had nice things to say about Trump and his family. And, he always is armed, always. And is a dead on shot.

This is not a guy I'd want to test.

I have zero doubt whatsoever the dude is sporting a fake arm and concealing an SMG under that coat.

Same with this guy. Look at how both of their right arms and thumbs are placed in the exact same way.
