We didn't receive any gifts for our wedding

much like the wristwatch.
The younger generation sends texts and has a clock on their phone. Laziness prevails.

Hopefully. “Mandatory” hand-written Thank you notes are dumb, particularly when you open the present in front of the giver and thank them then(ie most birthdays, baby showers, and weddings).
That said, anyone who doesn’t thank someone who gives them a gift in some manner is trashy. If the person wasn’t there when you received their gift, a phone call or text at minimum is appropriate

don’t give gifts to people in the expectation of receiving a thank you note for it. I’m give gifts to people I like and I hope they enjoy them.
And that's fine, well, and good but with today's destination weddings, sending of gifts from registries etc., at least a thank you note shows that the intended recipient received the gift.

Gifts in general are a chore. They’re a vestige of a time when people didn’t have everything imaginable available in a day or two at the click of a button.

I dont send them. Nor do I expect them.
Im not 50+ so that’s probably why.

Good managers periodically send out thank you notes for a good performance or deed. Does wonders for morale.

Rawwrrr back in mehrr dayy society was sehr much better, nvm the fact that violent crime and murder rates are 1/2 what they were back in muhrrr day. Check out the stats

Thank you notes are expected here. That’s just how we were raised and we’ve passed it down to our kids to write them.
Just received one from a nephew for graduation gift.

Sounds like you’re associating with the wrong people

I will wrote all our guests who gave gifts thank you notes. That being said, I really don’t care if I get a note or not after giving a gift. It’s nice to get one but I don’t give a gift and expect something in return.

Lazy people or people that were never taught simple etiquette.

Those idiots cant even write in cursive. Soft.
They quit teaching how to write in cursive in (atleast public school) Don't know how I'd be expected to learn if I was never taught. We are only taught like how to right our name in cursive in like 3rd grade

I would expect a thank you card from a highschool/college graduate or a married couple whom I've purchased a gift for or sent money to.
However, I don't keep tabs so likely wouldn't remember if they sent me something back or not.

Could this be another victim in the losing battles of politeness and manners?

The last two weddings I've been to I gave gifts and cash to each and spent over $500 each time without receiving a thank you card.
It's a gift. Have no expectations on your end to receive an acknowledgment or thank you and you will not be disappointed.
Sadly, many people today suck and don't know common courtesy or proper etiquette.
