Are roundabouts that difficult to understand?

About once a week in Hammond I'll be already in the roundabout in the right lane when someone in the far right lane of a 2 lane road will not even check up and pull into the roundabout thinking they have their own lane. I about had my morning ruined at 6:25 this morning. Is America that stupid to not understand what yield means?

Depends on the intelligence quotient of the driver charged with navigating the roundabout.

Not a good start. But it could be worse. It could be Livingston Parish.

You shoulda seen the drivers in Lafayette when they first got them there
Like monkeys fricking a football.

I love them, they did a double by my house and it totally changed the traffic pattern for the better
They're not at all difficult to understand. I understand how some massive urban traffic circle can be intimidating, but an average one in the US is simple and useful.

My work road is directly off a round about meaning I use them 10x a week.
Someone pulls into it in front of me about twice a week.
The worst offenders are those that stop in the middle of the lane and try to wave someone in in front of them thinking they are being nice.

You should see that one in Scott! It's unreal how stupid people are.

This is a death waiting to happen. People letting people out cause more wrecks than just about anything else.

Seems like most of America still can't even figure out a 4-way stop.

By Nunus? Yeah, still fun to watch. The one up in Carencro was good entertainment too.
In fairness, the one in Walker still gives some drivers fits.

I got lost on one for about 45 minutes once... Almost ran out of gas.

The one on Government/Lobdell actually works pretty well. It's a big one that's clearly marked though.
The ones on the I-12/Walker were hilarious when they opened. So many confused and angry pickup truck drivers....

There is a 2 lane roundabout near me and there is a wreck at least 1x a week. The 2 lane ones are a little more challenging but rockets dont have to leave the earth :)
So to answer the obvious question - CDNs not any brighter ....

quote:Yes. The one near me is just about foolproof. Only one lane within the circle, and two of the entrances have their own right lane where traffic does not have to yield because they never actually enter the circle.
The 2 lane ones are a little more challenging

No they aren't. People are just stupid and don't like change. I remember when roundabouts were still a novel thing, a lot of the fat Facebook moms would complain about them.

You guys have the advantage though. Everyone in Ellick has to learn these just to travel.

1st time I was in a roundabout was in the UK 30 yrs ago - got picked up by a supplier at airport in a 2 seat audi ... local drove like a bat out of hell ... approached the 1st roundabout and I had no idea what was happening ... jet lagged, couldnt think, figured I might die but we came out the other side unscathed :) later that week in my rental car I handled them just fine
