Now days fancy watches are bracelets for men. Unless you have a job that needs a watch it's kind of pointless to own one.
I inherited one of my grandfathers old AirKing Rolexes but I pretty much never wear it. It's missing the original band so it looks kind of weird. I tried finding a replacement band but it seemed like a lot more money and effort than it was worth.

TBH maybe 1% of the world will notice what kind of watch you are wearing...and that's a high estimate.

If you're more concerned about the quality of the watch (rather than the brand) and still want something in that luxury realm, Tudor is a great alternative to Rolex.
Agree 100% and would suggest Ball as well.
To the posters saying that no one wears a watch anymore then they aren’t in certain circles. Personally not a fame of Rolex. They are a good quality watch but think my Panerai, Franck Mueller or IWC are better looking.

I have an old one from 1990’s I won as a dealer award. Never wore the watch as I was too scared to tear it up.
Back then I wore citizens and Seiko watches as I was rough on watches. I think I might could get 3 to 4 yrs out of one. Didn’t want to abuse a Rolex like that.

This guy is the worst. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to spend 5k+ on a watch. There is something wrong with not wanting to spend 5k+ on a watch, but then buying something that looks exactly like the 5k+ watch so that people think you spent 5k+ on a watch.
It would be like buying a Miata that was modified to look like a Porsche 911 GT3, but still had the lower end internals.

It should be fairly easy to find a leather strap that would fit the watch and look really good. What year is the watch?

I wear a vintage Explorer 1016 everyday and will be purchasing another Rolex or two soon.
I don’t wear it for anyone but myself. I like what I like.

You got out of the game how?

Rolex is an iconic watch and has lasted over the years. If you don't like it don't buy it but don't say they aren't popular and awesome. If you want to use your phone fine, but don't knock me for buying something I find appealing. And I've owned hundreds of nice watches but never a Rolex. I just find others more appealing to me.

I used to say that, but I've killed two 007 and one 009 in the last year.
I've had my 009 since the past summer. I wear it to work, fishing, and everything. Bought it so I wouldn't wear out my Pogue. It's still going strong. Should last a very long time

I personally don’t give a flying shite what type watch a person wears.
I have never looked at a watch and thought, “oh man, he must be killing it cause that’s a XYZ watch”

I have one of those with the upgraded band. Leave it on the charger for a week. And it will die ten minutes after I put it on.

No. I see tons of c-suite guys, who make 7figures, wearing ironman, garmin, etc.

Doubt it’s still a statue symbol. I’ve had one for 36 years, ladies stainless. It’s ok, still works well, but would be nice to have some fun watches to wear. A watch is an accessory and should be fun, for us women anyway.

Seriously, is a Rolex a sign of class, or just an expensive relic of old people?
Both

Rolex owner checking in. Love the watch, will wear it forever. Those that don’t own are usually the ones to rip those that do..

No one cares about your watch or the make. Men's watch/jewelry marketers are some of the smartest people around.
It's not like women who compare rings, etc.

I have a leather strap for it, but it doesn't look very good. I'd like to find something close to the original. I'm not sure of the exact year. Its probably from the 70's. Possibly earlier.

I would assume most jobs require knowledge of the current time, at least to some degree. I guess unless you have a job in which you have no meetings or deadlines whatsoever.
A watch allows to you keep track of the time. Is it the only apparatus for doing so? Of course not. I personally just like the convenience of having such apparatus strapped to my wrist that allows me to know the time anytime I feel like looking. So I wouldn't say it is "pointless" to own a watch. Particularly in light of the fact that I don't always have my cell phone permanently affixed to my hand and I have, on occasion, been in a place where there no clocks readily visible.
