Yes. And this horseless carriage fad is going to flop too.
It's a good thing because we probably would have ran out of Hay by now. Horse farts are also bad for the environment. Climate Change was going to burn the paint off your wagon.

quote:I think all-in-all adding a lot more batteries to the grid will improve its overall health and resiliency. The entire purpose of a battery is to sort of time-shift energy production->use. Charge the EV, drive it later. Charge home battery storage at night, use the stored energy during peak hours. We can smooth out the peaks and dips in our daily energy use cycle, which could mean we would need less generation capacity.
I will agree with this, with a caveat. At home charging at 120 or 240V, no additional generation capacity should be needed. This would fall under the homes normal usage, which the grid SHOULD be designed for. However, if more people are supercharging, the grid will not support that, in most places.
It would be pretty easy for Tesla to add battery banks to supercharger stations (if they don't have them already) to take the load off the grid during peak usage where that is a concern. They can also limit total charge rate of the station if the station's battery is nearly depleted. Another method might be to utilize other Tesla vehicle batteries during high demand periods. For example, if you work within walking distance of a station, your car might notify you that you can park in a supercharger stall to backfeed and charge other cars. If you paid 15 cents/kwh for the power at home and Tesla will pay you 30 for it, it's just peanuts but if you can get paid $5 to park there for a day, why not?
The energy stored in batteries has value and it can be transferred, and for that reason I'm pretty sure the market will solve these problems before they become real problems.

I said this before. Al Gore pushed the "Global Warming" shite because he was invested in companies that were "protecting the planet".
Right now, if I had to guess, there are a lot of politicians invested in EV related companies. You know the governor of California is. Politicians are the biggest stock manipulators in the world.
Anything that becomes a thing, to answer your question why.. Look at how and who gains from it financially.

Most liberal countries are subsidizing the cost....
The race to EVs will destroy the world economy, mark my word!

i tried one for two weeks, i went back to ICE... a lightning to be exact. headache doesn't even begin to describe it... Trailer, it went sub 60 miles, got towed...charging on a 240V charger, impossible.. Range, not as advertised. however for the average person who drives 20 miles per day.. would be totally fine.

don’t think it is a big issue. I’m not sure why it is so divisive except for the fear of ice engines potentially being outlawed eventually.
Well this is exactly it isn’t it.
California wants them banned completely.
And the current occupants of the White House has pushed for this and has said we want to make America like California.
So yeah. I will continue to say the obvious.
Evs will not save the planet because of China.
And you thinking children mining cobalt and lithium in Africa is going to save the planet just makes you an a-hole.

Well ending production on gas powered vehicles kinda makes your point moot.

“We found the highest EMF levels in the Chevrolet Cobalt, a conventional non-hybrid small sedan.”

30 mG in the Chevrolet Cobalt. The hybrids tested at 2-4 mG
quote:
To get a sense of scale, though, note that users of personal computers are subject to EMF exposure in the range of 2 to 20 mG, electric blankets 5 to 30 mG, and a hair dryer 10 to 70 mG
quote:
Magnetic fields were compared inside passenger seats of electric, petrol and hybrid cars. While driving about 5 km in an urban environment, values were recorded and compared between car types. The magnetic flux densities of the cars were less than 2.6 µT. The magnitudes of the magnetic fields of petrol cars and hybrid cars were about the same and slightly lower for electric cars. Based on our measurements, values were less than 3% of the guidelines given for the general population or people using pacemakers.
Just a couple of highlights from among that sea of innocuous information with a bit of fear-mongering sprinkled in. I think less than 5% of people actually read the sources they cite.

I’d love to drive a vehicle powered primarily by coal and natural gas (the primary sources of electricity in this country), but I’ll wait until the batteries aren’t produced in China as I have no desire to support the Chinese economy any more than I have to.

I agree, studies never give you the full picture. Sometime you need to research and test for yourself.
As far as the emf output in electric vehicles compared to gas engine cars, just buy or borrow an emf / rf meter (sold for $50 or more on Amazon) and test both an ev and gas vehicle. The emf meter will give you extremely high readings in both. The biggest difference is that the highest readings on a gas vehicle only reaches up to 12" off the floor board and are contained to under the dash, which is emitting from the car engine into the cabin, and only affecting the body from your feet to under your knees. The ev gives its highest readings up to 20" above the floor board and spans the entire passenger compartment from front seats to the back seats. This, depending on the height of the ev occupants while sitting, affects organ tissue in the abdomen (colon, intestines, kidneys, pancreas and liver).
