Are people brainwashed with electric cars?

For the year 2022 the camry in Australia was passed by tesla as the most sold car..
Tesla is 64k and the camry is 32k..
I am amazed at this. It's double the cost. I would think many people are going to regret buying ev..
sell me on why this makes sense.
The list of headaches with ev seems to be a reason not to go all in..no dealerships, using your own electricity...

If you drive less than <200 mi/day then you're golden with an EV.

I imagine it just depends on your personal situation.
I don’t think it is a big issue. I’m not sure why it is so divisive except for the fear of ice engines potentially being outlawed eventually.

:awjeez:
If you want to buy an EV, get an EV. If you want an ICE, get an ICE. If you don't want any car at all, that's fine too - just don't get one.
Why is this such a big deal?

My buddy has had one for three years or so, never had an issue and has no idea if gas is $2 or $4. I use my truck to much to get an EV at this point, but I'd love to have one for commuting. And the Tesla is a nice ride, it'd be way more than a Camry either way.

Yes. And this horseless carriage fad is going to flop too.

For some people they make economical sense. For them that’s great. I have to travel too much for it to make sense for me. Now, that’s not to say as tech improves and more charging stations come on line that won’t change. But as for right now, an EV doesn’t fit my needs.

They hate Elon Musk but God damn if they don't buy up his cars

My aunt has an electric KIA for work.
It seems nice enough. But I think it gets 150ish miles per charge. So not super convenient.
She drives her truck way more just to not have to deal with the hassle since she doesn't have the charger for the KIA at her house hooked up yet and has to take it to the dealership to charge.

I have no problems with the EV as an option. My complaint is if you tell me I MUST have one. If it were up to me, I'd go back to the "computer-less" normally aspirated models with a radio that had a power wire and wires for 4 speakers, but the geniuses these days feel like complicated is better.
Get off my damn lawn!

Because they are also working to ban ICE vehicles?

If a company says the magic phrase:
“Better for the environment”
It will sell like crazy, especially with the younger generations.
In fact, invent something that humans use every day that looks like it can save the environment, but doesn’t really, and you’ll be a millionaire

It doesn't make sense for most people right now. The people buying EVs today are early adopters. It's not much different than someone paying thousands of dollars for a TV 10 years ago that's under $500 today.
There are things that need to be built out infrastructure wise for sure. But one of the advantages/differences between an EV and an ICE, is you don't need a bulky engine with an EV and can essentially put everything needed to make the vehicle go in the under carriage.
No engine up front will allow the interior of cars to be configured much differently which will be a nice fit with the self driving car technology we are heading towards, where we will want to maximize the interior cabin for comfort and productivity.
Another thing about an EV is they don't care what the original source of electricity was. It can be a coal power plant today or a fusion reactor in 20 years. EVs aren't the perfect type of car right now, but they look like they fit where the future is headed pretty well.

EVs are a good option for a lot of people, especially if they already have a normal truck or suv. They are not great options for a lot of other people. Also, teslas are pretty fricking cool.
I’m not sure why this is such a big debate on here. IRL most conservatives I know have neutral to positive thoughts on Tesla /other EVs.

EVs may be a good option for some.
FFS just quit forcing untested or unproven shite on people.

Not everyone wants to drive a Camry
If everyone made car purchases for sensible purposes then everyone would be driving the same vehicles.

Know people that have Teslas as well as a Nissan versa. All love them. Granted these are all people that typically stay in town and live within 20 miles from the office.
I’m not sure what the hate is. If you don’t want one, don’t get one.
