Leaning towards trashy just based on people who usually go to festivals.

Maybe they are just for bored people?

I thoroughly enjoy Renaissance Festival, parking and traffic not so much. But gnawing down on a giant turkey leg is quite the satisfaction.

festivals are for 18 year olds and 26 year old service industry people who are "about to start taking classes" again

That one is okay. It's in the WC after all.

Depends on the Festival:

Classy: Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, on Lake Geneva, 2nd largest jazz festival in the world

No So Classy: Gretna Heritage Festival, on the Mississippi's Westbank

Our town fair isn't all that trashy, just the carnies who come with the rides. Under the pavillion they have some high quality trim.

It depends if the area it is located in is trashy or not.

Festivals are supposed to celebrate culture, unfortunately the trash ruins it

Haines Beer fest is awesome. Perfect mix of trashy and culture

Festivals don't work if there isn't a little trashiness

I LOVE festivals as much as anyone. Been to a lot, and still go to a lot. But the amount of traffic as well as some of the scum that run around at some of them are starting to make me think twice about going to them.

Festivals are that sweet mixture of both. Where middle and upper class people mingle with the dregs of society and for a night or 2 even behave like the underlings. On Monday, we can gather and laugh at our misdeeds, swear not to repeat them, and wait for next year when we do it again.
