Are Dyson Vacuums Legit?

Wife wants a new vacuum. I think spending $400 on a vacuum is absurd.
Wife asked best friend if she liked hers. Best friend said yes. Wife's best friend once spent an extra $100 on a vacuum to get it in the color she wanted, so I say her opinion is suspect.
I don't want to go buy another $100 one, and I don't think spending $250ish is unreasonable. But is it really worth $400?
Help me OT, you're my only hope.

No, everyone lies about them, they're actually horrible.

They're worth the extra cost. I've had one since Katrina and it still works.

Have both a Dyson and Oreck, Dyson is better by a mile.

Get a Neato robot vacuum. It's the shite.

I'm not sure if there are comparable vacuums at lower prices, but the Dyson Animal I have is the best I've ever owned. I've always had trouble getting up all the fur my lab sheds, especially on rugs, but this thing has zero problems getting it all up.

We always had the worst luck with vacuum cleaners. They either didn't perform well or broke. Bought a Dyson a couple of years and have been really happy with it.
You can find deals on a refurbished model every now and then.
If you want a cheaper alternative, look into the Shark Navigator. It's Dyson "knock off" that has really good reviews on Amazon.

My dyson hand held is a beast. We use it every other day - still going strong after 1.5 years.

There were a couple of AMA threads on Reddit where people were asking questions to a vacuum repair technician. With a little searching, shouldn't be hard to find. Dude basically said Dyson's are ok...but not worth the price. He recommends Miele vacuums, but those are like $1000+ lol. Forgot what he recommended in the Dyson price range, I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

We bought an Orek XL thinking it was very good . I now wish we would have spent the money on a Dyson . Orek is not what they used to be unfortunately . Don't be cheap .

Yep the shark vacuums are legit at a fraction of the price. There is a reason they get good reviews they work exceptionally well.

Tons of refurb deals all the time leads me to believe they break a ton

If you want to do some research, here you go: LINK
ETA: He recommends Panasonic vacuums in the $100 - $300 range.

Dammit boys. I was afraid of this. Thanks for the input.

For being as expensive as they are, they are surprisingly made of cheap rickety arse plastic that FEELS like it's bound to break.
Mine works ok. It's a good vacuum no doubt, but slightly overpriced/overrated.
