I have no idea what I’ll switch to when my 2 pair wear out.

Sadly I think this might be true.

I am ordering direct from Europe now.

Use cedar shoe trees in your dress shoes and they will last longer and look better. Nordstrom rack usually has a deal going for shoe trees.

I was given 6 pair of Cole Haan recently so I dont have much experience yet but they do look great. I think they are comparable to Johnston and Murphy.

He’s asking about everyday dress shoes

I got a pair of 300 Allen Edmonds 22 years ago. I wore them to church on sundays from 15 to 22, but I have worn them three to five times a week for the last 15 years. Aside from one re soling I have never had any repair done. They look brand new. Those shoes would cost 600 now, but a quality pair of shoes can be every day shoes and last a lifetime.

Have a pair of CH oxfords I’ve worn 4 days a week and traveled to 4 continents with over 2 years. The sole came apart from leather a bit on mine which I was able to re-glue. Other than that they hold up nice will prob have them another year and buy identical pair

A year from now?

A stitched sole will last much longer.

Check out Meermin. It's a manufacturer in Spain that sells directly to consumers. Great prices and service.

So I went down some deep shoe blog/review rabbit holes last night.

Meermin seem to be unreal shoes for $195. Handmade, goodyear welt, etc.

So I ordered 2 pair.

ETA:

Also, there are a surprisingly huge number of shoe snobs on the internet. It is wild. And most of them praise Meermin quality.

Meerman is good. I am very hard on shoes, and the two pairs I’ve owned both held up well.

Steps to not having to buy dress shoes again for the next decade+:

1. Buy a pair of high quality, full grain leather, welted dress shoes.

2. Buy a second, identical pair.

3. Buy two sets of cedar shoe trees.

4. Buy a shoe horn.

5. Never put on the shoes without a shoe horn (a flexible plastic credit card or hotel room key will work in a pinch).

6. Never wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row.

7. The moment you take off a pair, the shoe trees go in, no exceptions.

Do the above and you’ll likely be able to pass them down to your children.

I use cedar shoe trees. Always have.

I will not use a shoe horn unless I need it. The heels of my shoes are in fine condition. I just untie them all the way and I've never crushed a heel.

Any particular reason why not?

And I’m not being facetious about the two pairs of shoes. Leather wears much faster when damp. Giving the shoe, and especially a leather sole, the chance to dry out between wears does wonders. Owning two pair of shoes and alternating them will result in them lasting much longer than owning two pairs consecutively.

I just don't really need it.

I own 6 or 7 pairs of dress shoes and rarely wear them back to back days. (and bought two pairs of Meermins last night)

Then how on earth are you blowing through shoes in less than a year?

Invest in cedar shoe trees and even cheap shoes like Coles will last. Use them everyday and polish your shoes once in awhile and they will last for as long as you can continue the routine.

Well, not using a show horn will prematurely wear out the heel counter. If you can find a cobbler who will repair it, looking at $80 or so just for that job. But it’s your money.

?

I've never done this. I have a few pairs high end cap toe dress shoes that I've had for a decade and it costs $150ish to resole them every 4-5 years because I'm very hard on dress shoes. I still rotate them though.

The other 3 pairs of shoes I have are loafers and I don't wear them as much, usually Fridays or something.

I wanted to get some lower end ones that would last a few years that I could throw into the rotation and wear to things like weddings where I know I'll beat them up, not just on the soles. I want to wear my nicer shoes less often, that's the goal.

ETA:

And I still ended up blowing $440 on two pairs of Meermin's
