Like so many things, it is a great idea that has been horribly executed because the makers tried to cheap out.

Absolutely. Worst of both worlds.

Social media probably has automatic faucets beat.

I used to work for a company and we made/sold automatic faucets. We used surround sensor technology which gave a 3" omni-directional sensing zone around the faucet. This meant that there was no infrared and regardless where you put your hand around the faucet, it would turn on.

The problem with 99% of the auto faucets out there is the infrared. These get scratched when they are getting cleaned which causes interference.

I lived in Chicago when I was selling these and we were outfitting the buildings downtown with these and was pulling in $60k deals daily.

I'm all for the auto faucet, as long as it's a good one and doesn't use infrared. They're also a little more expensive (~$350/ea) but the ROI can be 12-15 months on water savings.

I'll add that a lot of times those are the ones that are really close to the edge of the sink, so they add the "inadvertently touching the gross public sink" factor.

Spend 2 minutes looking like some sort of shitty magician only to move on to the next one and realize none of them work.

Sinks should be foot controlled. Step on the lever, get water. Cold water only. No one needs hot water in a public bathroom sink.

Were we really wasting that much water before?
Yes. You don’t have to wash your hands that much unless you shite on them.

Found the guy who comes out of the bathroom stall, rinses his hands under the faucet for 1 second with no soap, and walks out.

Yall are fricking gross and I hope you get called out on it to your face.

I do it all the time.

Quit being a pussy. Your phone is dirtier than my hands and dick, and maybe my a-hole, depending on how my day has gone.

No, but they are in the honorable mention category.

I hate them with a passion... at least the ones in my building.

Its a germ thing moreso than a water wasting thing.

Many times you have to touch/bump the faucet or sink to get it to work unless you have tiny childlike hands.

You’ve never known helll until you’re trying to wash a 3 year olds hands in a crowded, nasty bathroom with one of those on a wet counter top.

I love the automatic faucets. Combined with automatic paper towel dispensers they're awesome. I don't want to touch handles that have been handled by everyone else who's come through the public bathroom.

I don’t mind handsfree sinks and toilets but frick you if you have a handle that I have to touch to get in/out of the bathroom.
