I call BS. Water seeks it's own level. This can only happen if all oceans were not connected at all to other oceans. It may take a while to even out but not years.

That is saying that the mainland had miles of ice on top of it. The weight of the ice pushed down the Earth's crust. So, the coastal areas were being pushed down because of the ice, which caused the water levels to be "higher" over the coastline.

Whereas the islands were experiencing much lower sea levels because of all the water trapped in the ice.

I don't believe this is implying a difference in the amount of water in the ocean at the time for the mainland coast vs. the outer islands.

Eustasy is sea level rise or fall. Sea level would fall during an Ice Age due to ice forming on land, slowing down part of the water cycle.

Isostasy is continents raising and lowering due to less or extra mass present on continental plates.

Plates float on the astheosphere, and when more mass is added to a plate it will sink into the asthenosphere. Think Isostasy = Plate Buoyancy.

Mass added to the plate during an Ice Age would be ice sheets. Remove those and the continent rises up.
Hey Doc-

Eustasy has fascinated me since I learnt of it.

During the last recent Glacial Ice Maximum the Gulf of Mexico was much smaller than it is now.

It was dry land past Dry Tortugas off Florida.

18,000 years ago 30A property was much cheaper-

You do realize that Muslims consider Jesus and the Old Testament prophets as part of their religion, right? This is like saying that smething is recognized by e Brits and Americans.

higher CO2 isn't even a molehill. I'm not certain it's even a net negative given that plants will grow better and ice ages will become far less likely.

Perhaps...

But let's say that is the case...you've now got more food, which means more people. You'll have less clean water for everyone, between the increased population and increased farming. Increased pollution and consumption and trash, likely creating more problems. Who is to say that our current "crop" of domesticated plants will thrive in such an environment anyway?

Not to mention, water sources, precipitation patterns and whatnot, are likely to change and have been changing.

And on top of that, with the warmer climate, you'll have serious mosquito borne diseases (malaria, yellow fever, zika, West Nile, etc.) become common in areas that previously did not have them.

You currently have upwards of 40% of the world's population that live along coastlines. If sea levels actually rise as predicted, you're going to have a huge influx of refugees away from coasts to the interior. There goes some of that arable land for farming purposes. That won't cause any problems, will it?

But...maybe it will become a slightly warmer utopia, with abundant food, for all.

So more weight sinks the continents, eh?

Must be why the Deep South is closer to sea level

Probably not. People are sheep, they'll cluster together

So you have a war to kill off your neighbors for their land and resources. Like all successful tribes in history did.

Well, obviously. I should have included that, but I was just handling the more direct effects of a changed climate.

Fortunately, there are methods for determining sea level other than a stick in the water that some guy checks.

Yes I do. And it is 100% irrelevant to my post.

The guy specifically related Noah to Christianity saying that they are no more right than other religions, and I was simply pointing out that the other religions also believe in "Noah".

So, I ask you, what was the point of your response to me?
