It’s silly. Will we be closed Tuesday too because tomorrow’s overnight low is going to be worse.

It’s not even freezing in New Orleans.
Weather channel says it’ll get down to 28. Takes one patch of black ice skidded on by the wrong person for it to become a game of “why didn’t they call school off.” The times we live in.

hey you
This is total bullshite
The wind at a higher temperature today has dried out the roads.

Or just give parents the option and say absences will be excused. School (especially grammar school) is 50% schooling and 50% day care bc the majority of families are 2 income households.
It’s actually kind of ironic bc when there was a higher % of households of single income families, the schools seemed to never close.

The weather this morning is far far far safer to drive in then when they go to school when it’s a thunderstorm

Late start was the proper answer.

Or just close since they have extra days built in anyway rather than overcomplicating it.

I drive to Houma and back daily - this morning had some of the most pleasant driving conditions in months
No fog, it was great
School canceled is a joke. Of all the random weather events to close for since I've been a parent, this has been the dumbest.

Are they giving refunds for the days? Like I said earlier school is also childcare for many 2 income families especially in grammar school.

I'll give them credit this time; they at least waited several hours after the parishes closed the public schools before caving. Hell, our principal even sent out a message earlier in the morning saying we were not going to mandate everyone comply with the curfew and the kids can come in sweatpants as their warmth and comfort is more important.

Usually if they close here it’s because of the rural dirt roads on the bus routes that they deem unsafe.

Will we be closed Tuesday too because tomorrow’s overnight low is going to be worse.
It’s all a clown show. And then, after they use up all their built in weather days for sham weather emergencies, a REAL weather issue will arise and parents will have to deal with virtual learning to boot.
